Background And Aim: The pathogenesis of the pain that occurs in episodic migraine attack is due to the activation of the trigeminal system's first neuron receptors located on vessel wall. The release from the endothelium of nitric oxide, a product of arginine metabolism, causes vasodilation and stretching of the vascular trigeminal system and promotes pain. It is unknown whether this same metabolic event is involved in the pain accompanying chronic migraine.

COVID-19 in pregnancy: placental pathological patterns and effect on perinatal outcome in five cases.

Introduction: COVID-19, the disease caused by the novel coronavirus SARS-CoV-2, is a severe systemic thrombotic syndrome that emerged in 2019, with an ensuing pandemic. To evaluate the impact of this disease on placental tissue and perinatal outcome, histological, immunohistochemical and ultrastructural analyses of placental tissue were performed for five cases of pregnant women with COVID-19.

Case Reports: All five pregnant women in this series developed COVID-19 in late pregnancy.

Antiphospholipid syndrome (APS) is frequently associated with thrombocytopenia, in most cases mild and in the absence of major bleedings. In some patients with a confirmed APS diagnosis, secondary immune thrombocytopenia (ITP) may lead to severe thrombocytopenia with consequent major bleeding. At the same time, the presence of antiphospholipid antibodies (aPL) in patients with a diagnosis of primary ITP has been reported in several studies, although with some specific characteristics especially related to the variety of antigenic targets.

Background: Germline BRCA1-2 pathogenic variants (gBRCA1-2pv)-related pancreatic ductal adenocarcinoma (PDAC) showed increased sensitivity to DNA cross-linking agents. This study aimed at exploring safety profile, dose intensity, and activity of different chemotherapy regimens in this setting.

Stenting of the superior vena cava and right pulmonary artery in a woman with a mediastinal mass and acute respiratory distress syndrome (ARDS).

We report the case of a woman with a mass in the anterior and middle mediastinum (a non-small-cell lung carcinoma), determining significant compression of both superior vena cava and right pulmonary artery. The patient developed acute respiratory distress syndrome , necessitating intubation and admission to the Intensive Care Unit . Radiotherapy sessions to reduce the mass effect were attempted, without significant clinical improvement.

Replication and cross-validation of type 2 diabetes subtypes based on clinical variables: an IMI-RHAPSODY study.

Aims/hypothesis: Five clusters based on clinical characteristics have been suggested as diabetes subtypes: one autoimmune and four subtypes of type 2 diabetes. In the current study we replicate and cross-validate these type 2 diabetes clusters in three large cohorts using variables readily measured in the clinic.

Methods: In three independent cohorts, in total 15,940 individuals were clustered based on age, BMI, HbA, random or fasting C-peptide, and HDL-cholesterol.

A chromogenically reversible, mechanochromic pressure sensor is integrated into a mininvasive surgical grasper compatible with the da Vinci robotic surgical system. The sensorized effector, also featuring two soft-material jaws, encompasses a mechanochromic polymeric inset doped with functionalized spiropyran (SP) molecule, designed to activate mechanochromism at a chosen pressure and providing a reversible color change. Considering such tools are systematically in the visual field of the operator during surgery, color change of the mechanochromic effector can help avoid tissue damage.

In the last decades, research has shifted to the identification of electrophysiological alterations in the prodromal and early phases of the disorder, focusing on the prediction of clinical and functional outcome. The identification of neuronal aberrations in subjects with a first episode of psychosis (FEP) and in those at ultra high-risk (UHR) or clinical high-risk (CHR) to develop a psychosis is crucial to implement adequate interventions, reduce the rate of transition to psychosis, as well as the risk of irreversible functioning impairment.
