Objective: To determine whether vesicoureteral reflux (VUR) that occurs during either the filling or voiding phase on voiding cystourethrogram (VCUG) has prognostic significance on successful endoscopic treatment.

Materials And Methods: A retrospective review was performed of 299 patients (438 ureters) with VUR who underwent endoscopic treatment with dextranomer/hyaluronic acid copolymer (Deflux) at a single institution from 2010 to 2013. Success was defined as absence of VUR on 3-month follow-up VCUG.

Introduction: We evaluated current practice patterns in the management and screening of cryptorchidism among pediatric urologists and compared them to the 2014 AUA (American Urological Association) guidelines on cryptorchidism.

Methods: A 14-question survey was disseminated to members of the SPU (Society for Pediatric Urology) to assess their current practice patterns.

Results: There were 187 responses (38.

Objective: To determine if 24-hour urinary parameters in children with nephrolithiasis across 4 institutions were influenced by body mass index (BMI).

Materials And Methods: The 24-hour urinary parameters obtained from children with nephrolithiasis between 2000 and 2013 were stratified by BMI percentile ≥85th and <85th (overweight and obese patients vs healthy weight, respectively). A total of 206 children were included in the study.

To describe a multicenter experience with management of ureteral obstruction after injection of Dx/HA for VUR in pediatric renal transplant patients. The records of all pediatric renal transplant patients who underwent Dx/HA injection for VUR and had subsequent obstruction were identified, and the management and outcomes were reviewed. Follow-up ranged from 1 to 10 years.

Introduction: Pediatric nephrolithiasis is a growing problem and prior studies have shown the greatest increase in nephrolithiasis in the adolescent population. Metabolic abnormalities have historically been cited as the primary cause of pediatric nephrolithiasis; however, dietary and other factors such as obesity have also been studied with mixed results.

Objective: We reviewed the charts of pediatric patients with a history of nephrolithiasis to determine the number and types of metabolic abnormalities present on 24-h urine analysis.

Objective: To evaluate the current practice patterns of vesico-ureteric reflux (VUR) management and screening among paediatric urologists and their relationship with the current American Urological Association (AUA) guidelines in managing and treating VUR.

Subjects And Methods: A 17-question survey was sent out to 476 paediatric urologists who are members of the Society for Pediatric Urology (SPU). In all, 133 respondents answered the survey and results were included for all questions.

We report on a 14-year-old boy with bilateral testicular microlithiasis and a right-sided testicular tumor. Tumor markers alpha-fetoprotein (AFP) and β-human chorionic gonadrotropin (β-hCG) levels were elevated and orchiectomy revealed a mixed germ cell tumor consisting of embryonal carcinoma, yolk sac tumor, choriocarcinoma, and mature teratoma. The patient had no evidence of metastatic disease.

Objective: To report the risk factors and natural history of urinary fistula (UF) after partial nephrectomy (PN), as their incidence has been reported to be 3-6% in large series of PN but there are few reports of the risk factors associated with the development of UF after PN, and the natural history of UF in a large group of patients.

Patients And Methods: This was a retrospective review of 1118 PN at one tertiary-care institution. Most patients had a drain placed in the perinephric space after surgery.

Recent epidemiological evidence indicates that insulin resistance, a proximal cause of Type II diabetes [a non-insulin dependent form of diabetes mellitus (NIDDM)], is associated with an increased relative risk for Alzheimer's disease (AD). In this study we examined the role of dietary conditions leading to NIDDM-like insulin resistance on amyloidosis in Tg2576 mice, which model AD-like neuropathology. We found that diet-induced insulin resistance promoted amyloidogenic beta-amyloid (Abeta) Abeta1-40 and Abeta1-42 peptide generation in the brain that corresponded with increased gamma-secretase activities and decreased insulin degrading enzyme (IDE) activities.
