Background: The literature has few studies on the quality of the mother-child interaction when mothers suffer from chronic anxiety and depression. This study aimed to compare characteristics of the interaction between 14-month-old children and their mothers who presented symptoms of chronic anxiety or depression with those of 14-month-old children and their mothers who did not present mental problems.
Method: The sample consisted of 40 mother-infant dyads selected from a prospective cohort study.
This study compared assessments concerning the quality of life of prematurely born schoolchildren based on two instruments and compared the assessments of children with those of their caregivers. A total of 57 prematurely born children of both sexes aged between five and eight years of age participated in the study. The caregivers completed an instrument based on funcionality (HUI3) while an autoquestionnaire based on the theory of wellbeing (AUQEI) was applied to both children and caregivers.

View Article and Find Full Text PDFApert and Crouzon are the most common craniosynostosis syndromes associated with mutations in the fibroblast growth factor receptor 2 (FGFR2) gene. We conducted a study to examine the molecular biology, brain abnormalities, and cognitive development of individuals with these syndromes. A retrospective longitudinal review of 14 patients with Apert and Crouzon syndromes seen at the outpatient Craniofacial Surgery Hospital for Rehabilitation of Craniofacial Anomalies in Brazil from January 1999 through August 2010 was performed.

The scope of this study was to identify and compare maternal feeding strategies and characteristics of the interaction between mothers of malnourished and eutrophic children. Eight pairs of mother/malnourished child and eight pairs of mother/eutrophic child (aged between 9 to 24 months) living in poor inner areas, were videotaped during meals, at home. Through analysis of the videos, the strategies were identified and episodes qualitatively analyzed, according to the peculiar characteristics of the interaction, especially maternal responsivity.

Methods: twenty-two mothers from the Group M were matched by age and number of children to 22 mothers of the Group E. They were assessed through the Beck Depression Inventory (BDI) and the State-Trait Anxiety Inventory (STAI).
Crouzon syndrome is characterized by cranial and facial abnormalities and exophtalmos. Mental retardation is sometimes observed. The objective of this study was to correlate brain malformations, timing for surgery and also social classification of families and parents education to the neuropsychological evaluation and to the quality of life of these families.

The objective of this study was to correlate brain malformations and timing for surgery with neuropsychological evaluation. We also tried to determine other relevant aspects involved in cognitive development of these patients such as social classification of families and parents education.
