In vitro cefditoren antimicrobial activity was tested against 288 Streptococcus pneumoniae and 220 Haemophilus influenzae clinical strains isolated in our hospital from January 2005 to May 2006 by agar dilution and broth microdilution method, respectively. MICs were also determined for 13 and 10 comparison drugs, respectively. The pneumococci tested comprised 113 (39.

The reaction of 1 with gold complexes such as [AuCl(PR 3)] affords the species [Au{S 2P(OH)Fc}(PR 3)] (PR 3 = PPh 3 ( 2), PPh 2Me ( 3)), in which the phosphonodithioate ligand Fc(OH)PS 2 (-) has been formed. The same ligand is present in the compound [Au 2{S 2P(OH)Fc} 2].

A total of 282 pediatric isolates received during 2005 in the Spanish Reference Pneumococcal Laboratory were tested by agar dilution: 104 strains were penicillin-susceptible, 72 intermediate, and 106 resistant. Serotypes 9 and 14 were the most troublesome with <10% susceptibility to oral cephalosporins.

Although iron therapy is very common, few studies have assessed iron absorption or iron kinetics in general, particularly with Fe(3+). This was the primary objective of this study, with assessment of tolerance as a secondary objective. Eight nonsmoking iron-deficient females without other associated pathologies, with an average age of 21.

This result contrasts with the one obtained from the reaction with thiolates or selenolates, from which mononuclear complexes are synthesized. The structures of these species have been determined and consist on three layers of gold and tellurium atoms in the ratio Au3Te2:Au2Te4:Au3Te2.

The total carotenoid recovery from ensilaged shrimp wastes was higher than that from non-ensilaged ones as assessed by HPLC analyses. Acetone gave the highest extraction yields of free astaxanthin with up to 115 microg/g of material.

The aim of this study focused on ex vivo effects of LC 40 mg/kg ip and indomethacin (INDO) 10 mg/kg ip in lung and stomach preparations of control rats and LPS-treated rats (5 mg/kg ip). The non-steroidal antiinflammatory drugs were administered concomitantly, following three hours and before one, two or three hours of LPS treatment.

The objectives of this randomized, double-blind study were to evaluate the pharmacokinetics, and the pharmacodynamic and gastrointestinal (GI) tolerance of cefditoren pivoxil in healthy adult male volunteers when it is administered three times a day. Twenty healthy volunteers were included in the study. On day 1, 10 subjects received a 200-mg single dose of cefditoren pivoxil and 10 received a 400-mg dose.

Objectives: This pooled analysis was performed to evaluate the efficacy of cefditoren pivoxil (CDN) in patients with lower respiratory tract infections (CAP or AECB). A particular focus was the per-pathogen bacteriologic response rate among the most common causative pathogens, S pneumoniae, H influenzae, and M catarrbalis.
The reactions of [AuClL] with Ag(2)O, where L represents the heterofunctional ligands PPh(2)py and PPh(2)CH(2)CH(2)py, give the trigoldoxonium complexes [O(AuL)(3)]BF(4). Treatment of these compounds with thio- or selenourea affords the triply bridging sulfide or selenide derivatives [E(AuL)(3)]BF(4) (E=S, Se). These trinuclear species react with Ag(OTf) or [Cu(NCMe)(4)]PF(6) to give different results, depending on the phosphine and the metal.

The reaction in a 1 : 1 molar ratio with [Cu(NCMe)4]PF6 or Ag(OTf) complexes gives the mononuclear [CuL(NCMe)]PF6 (1), with crystallographic mirror symmetry, or dinuclear [Ag2(mu-L)2](OTf)2 (2) (OTf = trifluoromethanesulfonate) in which the ligand bridges both silver centres, an unprecedented mode of coordination for this type of ligands. At therapeutic doses ritodrine has chronotropic and peripheral vasodilator effects. At high doses it has been related to sporadic cases of subendocardial necrosis, pulmonary edema, and death in pregnancy.

Platelets are suspected to intervene at some stages of its development, together with endothelial and muscle cells, the extracellular matrix and, most probably, adhesion receptors. To ascertain whether and at what stage beta3 integrins are involved, a rat arterial autograft model was used, together with monoclonal antibody P37, which is directed to the sequence 101-109 of the beta3 subunit of the human platelet fibrinogen receptor (integrin alphaIIbbeta3) and inhibits platelet aggregation in vitro and acute thrombosis in vivo.

Background: Human mesenchymal stem cells (MSCs) are present in most of the tissue matrix, taking part in their regeneration when injury or damage occurs. The aim of this study was to investigate the presence of cells with pluripotential characteristics in synovial membranes from osteoarthritic (OA) patients and the capacity of these cells to differentiate to chondrocytes.
Methods: Synovial membranes (n = 8) from OA patients were digested with collagenase.
