Background: Alternative Splicing (AS) is a post-transcriptional process that allows a single RNA to produce different mRNA variants and, in some cases, multiple proteins. Various processes, many yet to be discovered, regulate AS. This study focuses on regulation by RNA-binding proteins (RBPs), which are not only crucial for splicing regulation but also linked to cancer prognosis and are emerging as therapeutic targets for cancer treatment.

Silver bis(carbene) complexes featuring ditopic N-heterocyclic carbene (NHC) ligands have been synthesized which enable the assembly of supramolecular architectures via reaction with silver triflate. Through a systematic exploration of crystal structures and emissive properties, this study investigates the impact of the substituents on the NHC ditopic ligands [R-Im-2-Z-py], where R = Me, benzyl (Bz), or 2-naphthylmethyl (NaphCH), and Z = H or Cl in the structural framework and emissive properties observed in the silver bis(carbene) or polynuclear species. Remarkably diverse structural motifs emerge in both of them, predominantly influenced by the choice of R wingtip and second by the Z substituent.

Lissencephaly and cerebellar hypoplasia (LCH) represents a spectrum of congenital developmental malformations of the cerebral cortex and cerebellum, mostly occurring as inherited conditions caused by variants in an increasingly recognized number of genes. LCH has been identified in three Dorset-cross lambs with congenital neurological signs in Australia. Lambs were unable to walk and had reduced vision, and one lamb developed a hypermetric gait and intention tremors.

While iron-catalyzed C(sp)-C(sp) cross-couplings have been widely studied and developed in the last decade, alkyl-alkyl cross-coupling systems with iron remain underdeveloped despite the importance of C(sp)-C(sp) bonds in organic synthesis. A major challenge to the development of these reactions is the current lack of fundamental insight into ligand effects and organoiron intermediates that enable effective alkyl-alkyl couplings. The current study addresses this longstanding limitation using a combination of Fe Mössbauer spectroscopy, SC-XRD (single-crystal X-ray diffraction) and reactivity studies of alkyl-alkyl coupling with iron-Xantphos to define the in situ formed iron-Xantphos intermediates in catalysis.

The first chiral and luminescent cyclic trinuclear gold(I) complex, [{AuCH(PPhMe)(PhP)}], has been isolated with metalated phosphorus ylides (PY). This complex was initially obtained through the reaction of either mononuclear [CFSAuCH(PPhMe)(PhP)]OTf or dinuclear [CFS{AuCH(PPhMe)(PhP)}](OTf) thiolate-gold-phosphane complexes in the presence of NaH, followed by the abstraction of the thiopyridine moiety employing either AgOTf or [Cu(CHCN)]PF. Our quest for a more efficient synthesis route led to the development of a streamlined one-pot synthesis method, employing Ag(acac) as both a halogen abstractor and a base, offering a quicker and more direct path to this intriguing trimer.

As charismatic and iconic species, penguins can act as "ambassadors" or flagship species to promote the conservation of marine habitats in the Southern Hemisphere. Unfortunately, there is a lack of reliable, comprehensive, and systematic analysis aimed at compiling spatially explicit assessments of the multiple impacts that the world's 18 species of penguin are facing. We provide such an assessment by combining the available penguin occurrence information from Global Biodiversity Information Facility (>800,000 occurrences) with three main stressors: climate-driven environmental changes at sea, industrial fisheries, and human disturbances on land.

Twelve (N^N^N)platinum pyridyl complexes, (N^N^N)Pt(pyF), were synthesised and investigated for their singlet oxygen generation and potential biological activities. They exhibited IL and MLCT absorption transitions at approximately 325 and 360 nm, identified through TD-DFT calculations. Luminescence was observed only in the L1-derived compounds in solution, with a dual emission with the main contribution of phosphorescence under deaerated conditions.

Mercury (Hg) is a global pollutant known for its significant bioaccumulation and biomagnification capabilities, posing a particular threat to marine environments. Seabirds have been recognized as effective bioindicators of marine pollution, and, among them, penguins present a unique opportunity to serve as a single taxonomic group (Sphenisciformes) for monitoring Hg across distinct marine ecosystems in the Southern Hemisphere. In this study, we conducted a comprehensive systematic review of Hg concentrations, and performed a meta-analysis that took into account the various sources of uncertainty associated with Hg contamination in penguins.

Geologically "saline" zones with scarce pluviometry, which are already susceptible to the salinization of natural drainage, can experience the acceleration of the salinization of the receiving water systems with the implementation of irrigation. The main objective of this paper is to analyze the geochemical processes that control the variations of the hydrosaline balance due to the implementation of irrigation of the Lerma basin (Spain) from the beginning of its transformation into irrigation land (2004) until the consolidation of irrigation (2020). The results of this study evidence the dissolution of some mineral phases, such as halite, gypsum, and dolomite, and the precipitation of others, such as calcite.
