Joint motion calculated using multi-body models and inverse kinematics presents many advantages over direct marker-based calculations. However, the sensitivity of the computed kinematics is known to be partly caused by the model and could also be influenced by the participants' anthropometry and sex. Methods: An IRB-approved retrospective review of the breast imaging reporting system database was performed to identify all cases of pure RS alone or RS plus an additional HRL (papilloma, atypia, lobular neoplasia) diagnosed on core-needle biopsy, from 2007 to 2016, at four breast centers in our institution. Cases with associated malignancy, discordant radiologic-pathologic results, or those lost to follow-up were excluded.

Experimental approaches targeting carotenoid biosynthetic enzymes have successfully increased the seed β-carotene content of crops. However, linkage analysis of seed carotenoids in Arabidopsis thaliana recombinant inbred populations showed that only 21% of quantitative trait loci, including those for β-carotene, encode carotenoid biosynthetic enzymes in their intervals. Thus, numerous loci remain uncharacterized and underutilized in biofortification approaches.

The purpose of our study was to assess data reproducibility from 2 consecutive front squat workouts, spaced 1 week apart, performed by American college football players (n = 18) as they prepared for their competitive season. For each workout, our methods entailed the performance of 3-6 front squat repetitions per set at 55, 65, and 75% of subject's 1 repetition maximum (1RM) load. In addition, a fourth set was done at a heavier load, with a resistance equal to 80 and 83% of their 1RM values, for the first and second workouts, respectively.

Vitamin E is an essential nutrient for humans and is obtained primarily from food, especially oil, derived from the seed of plants. Genes encoding the committed steps in vitamin E synthesis in plants (VTE, loci 1-5) have been isolated and used for tocopherol pathway engineering with various degrees of success. As a complement to such approaches we have used quantitative trait loci analysis with two sets of Arabidopsis thaliana recombinant inbred lines and have identified 14 QVE (quantitative vitamin E) loci affecting tocopherol content and composition in seeds.

New paradigms in genetics have increased the chance of finding genes that appear redundant but in fact may have been preserved due to a small level of positive selection potential acting during each generation. Monitoring changes in genotypic frequencies within and between generations allows the dissection of the fertility, viability and meiotic drive selection components acting on such genes in natural and experimental populations. Here, a formal maximum likelihood procedure is developed to identify and estimate these selection components in highly selfing populations by fitting the time-dependent solutions for genotypic frequencies to observed multigenerational counts.

Arabidopsis contains eight actin genes. Of these ACT7 is the most strongly expressed in young plant tissues and shows the greatest response to physiological cues. Adult plants homozygous for the act7 mutant alleles show no obvious above-ground phenotypes, which suggests a high degree of functional redundancy among plant actins.

The ACT2 gene, encoding one of eight actin isovariants in Arabidopsis, is the most strongly expressed actin gene in vegetative tissues. A search was conducted for physical defects in act2-1 mutant plants to account for their reduced fitness compared with wild type in population studies. The act2-1 insertion fully disrupted expression of ACT2 RNA and significantly lowered the level of total actin protein in vegetative organs.

During plant growth and development, the phytohormone auxin induces a wide array of changes that include cell division, cell expansion, cell differentiation, and organ initiation. It has been suggested that the actin cytoskeleton plays an active role in the elaboration of these responses by directing specific changes in cell morphology and cytoarchitecture. Here we demonstrate that the promoter and the protein product of one of the Arabidopsis vegetative actin genes, ACT7, are rapidly and strongly induced in response to exogenous auxin in the cultured tissues of Arabidopsis.

A mathematical model was developed to help interpret genotype and allele frequency dynamics in selfing populations, with or without apomixis. Our analysis provided explicit time-dependent solutions for the frequencies at diallelic loci in diploid populations under any combination of fertility, viability, and gametic selection through meiotic drive. With no outcrossing, allelic variation is always maintained under gametic selection alone, but with any fertility or viability differences, variation will ordinarily be maintained if and only if the net fitness (fertility x viability) of heterozygotes exceeds that of both homozygotes by a substantial margin.
