: Temporomandibular disorders (TMDs) represent a prevalent multifactorial condition that impacts a significant portion of the global population. The objective of this study was to employ Fonseca's questionnaire for an initial assessment of TMDs. A cross-sectional study was conducted on a sample of 250 undergraduates from the Dental School of the University of Perugia, Italy.

New test for systematic skills enhancement and improvement in maxillofacial surgery training: multicentre pilot study.

We know of few studies in the international scientific literature that specifically address the evaluation of surgical and clinical progress among physicians undergoing specialist training in maxillofacial surgery. Identifying a reliable tool to accurately assess both theoretical knowledge and surgical skills of trainees is essential. The primary aim of this study therefore was to design a comprehensive assessment tool that is capable of evaluating both the theoretical and practical skills of physicians undergoing specialist training in maxillofacial surgery.

Atezolizumab Plus Carboplatin and Etoposide in Patients with Untreated Extensive-Stage Small-Cell Lung Cancer: Interim Results of the MAURIS Phase IIIb Trial.

Background: MAURIS is an Italian multicenter, open-label, phase IIIb ongoing trial, aiming at evaluating the safety and effectiveness of atezolizumab + carboplatin/etoposide in patients with newly diagnosed, extensive-stage small-cell lung cancer (ES-SCLC). The primary objective is the safety evaluation.

Materials And Methods: Patients received atezolizumab + carboplatin/etoposide Q3W for 4-6 cycles in the induction phase, followed by atezolizumab maintenance Q3W.

Consolidative thoracic radiation therapy for extensive-stage small cell lung cancer in the era of first-line chemoimmunotherapy: preclinical data and a retrospective study in Southern Italy.

Background: Consolidative thoracic radiotherapy (TRT) has been commonly used in the management of extensive-stage small cell lung cancer (ES-SCLC). Nevertheless, phase III trials exploring first-line chemoimmunotherapy have excluded this treatment approach. However, there is a strong biological rationale to support the use of radiotherapy (RT) as a boost to sustain anti-tumor immune responses.

A surgeon must consider the site, depth, size, age, etiology and effect on future function (including growth). The path of total reconstruction or of portions of the cartilaginous / cutaneous nasal structure in the pediatric patient must undergo a series of totally different needs with respect to the management of the adult.

Official food safety audits in large scale retail trades in the time of COVID: system control experiences supported by an innovative approach.

This work describes a new methodology used in large scale retail trades in official food safety auditing processes developed during COVID19 emergency. The aim is to evaluate Food Business Operators' (FBOs) Food Safety Management System and its dynamic implementation and to understand the FBO's level of cultural maturity about food safety according to EU Regulation 2021/382. The innovation mainly consists of: a) a pre-audit phase when auditors analyse food business operator's (FBO) selfchecked plan and further documents to identify "markers" and useful evidences (that would be collected in on-site inspections) to evaluate the application of plan by FBO's workers; b) an audit phase consisted of both a check of the company procedures and documents performed by the auditors via web conference and of contextually onsite inspections in a sample of company's supermarkets performed by inspectors teams.

Complete response to pembrolizumab as a single agent in a patient with stage III NSCLC with high PD-L1 expression: a case report.

Non-small cell lung cancer (NSCLC) accounts for 75-80% of all lung cancer cases. Stage III NSCLC represents a highly heterogenous stage characterized by different disease presentations and a wide range of treatment options. For patients with good performance status and unresectable-stage III NSCLC with programmed death-ligands 1 (PD-L1) tumor proportion score (TPS) ≥1%, durvalumab consolidation immunotherapy after a platinum-based chemo-radiotherapy is strongly recommended.

Quality of Cure in Depth of Commercially Available Bulk-fill Composites: A Layer-by-layer Mechanical and Biological Evaluation.

Despite their popularity, the use of bulk-fill composites remains controversial, both in terms of their properties and their in-depth development. The objectives of the present work were (1) to provide a more comprehensive evaluation of the quality of cure in depth of commercially available bulk-fill composites by combining various key mechanical and biological characterization methods, (2) to evaluate the inter-material differences when optimally cured, and (3) to evaluate the efficiency of an antioxidant-N-acetyl-cysteine (NAC)-to restrain the adverse effects of the leached components on cell viability. Nine bulk-fill composites (including flowable and high-viscosity materials) were investigated and compared to two conventional resin-based composites, one flowable and one high-viscosity restorative material.

Endoscopic central airway recanalization to enable first line pembrolizumab treatment in a PD-L1 strongly positive non-small cell lung cancer: a case report.

Background: Tracheobronchial malignant stenosis is a life-threatening condition which may cause recurrent infections due to lung atelectasis. Despite immunotherapy is less toxic than standard chemotherapy, recurrent lung infections may represent a challenge for this treatment. We report a clinical case of a patient with metastatic squamous cell carcinoma suffering from pulmonary infections due to central airway obstruction who underwent endoscopic recanalization followed by immunotherapy.

The role of social context in shaping student-athlete opinions.

How do student-athletes form opinions? This is a particularly important question given ongoing debates about whether student-athletes should be paid and/or allowed to unionize. These debates concern the rights and benefits accrued directly to student-athletes, and thus, understanding their attitudes is of obvious import. Yet, virtually no recent work has delved into how student-athletes form opinions on these issues.

Application of DNA Barcoding for Controlling of the Species from Genus.

The DNA barcoding proposes the use of a particular sequence from a single genomic region as the base for an identifying system capable to determine all animal species. This methodology comprises the analysis of a 655 base-pair region from the mithocondrial cytochrome gene (COI). Its application in the species identification of fishery products has been very promising.

On the study of cellular nonlinear networks via amplitude and phase dynamics.

The purpose of this manuscript is to propose a method for investigating the global dynamics of nonlinear oscillatory networks, with arbitrary couplings. The procedure is based on the assumption that each oscillator can be accurately described via its time-varying amplitude and phase variables. The proposed method allows one to derive a set of coupled nonlinear ordinary differential equations governing this couple of variables.

Gemcitabine, ifosfamide and paclitaxel in advanced/metastatic non-small cell lung cancer patients: a phase II study.

Unlabelled: Although platinum-based two-drug combinations represent the elective therapeutic approach for advanced/metastatic NSCLC, there is still interest in exploring the efficacy and tolerability of platinum-free combinations including third generation agents in selected NSCLC population. Based on the satisfying activity of gemcitabine (G), ifosfamide (I) and paclitaxel (T) as single agents in NSCLC, we have designed a phase II study to explore an alternative approach to platinum-containing regimens using a combination of these three drugs. To investigate the activity/toxicity of T 175 mg/m2 on day 1, I 3 g/m2 on day 1 (with Mesna uroprotection) and G 1,000 mg/m2 on day 1-8, every 3 weeks in the treatment of advanced/metastatic NSCLC, 46 patients (38 male, 8 female) with NSCLC were enrolled: mean age 58 (range 33-70); Stage IIIB/IV=15/31; ECOG PS 0-1/2=31/15;

Natural killer cells in Bal and peripheral blood of patients with idiopathic pulmonary fibrosis (IPF).

Idiopathic Pulmonary Fibrosis/ Usual Interstitial Pneumonia (IPF/UIP) represents the most important interstitial pneumonia. ATh2 cytokine pathway predominance, favoring collagen deposition, associated to a deficit in (IFN- gamma) network, seems to be involved in the pathogenesis of this disease. Nonetheless, few data are available about the potentially involved cells.

[The action of different coagulants to remove Cryptosporidium during the process of water treatment].

Cryptosporidium is one of the microorganisms of main concern from the point of view of Public Health, being a priority problem for water treatment plants and water regulatory institutions. Due to its small size and resistance to chlorination, Cryptosporidium removal during the process of drinking water treatment is a hard task. The effectiveness of different coagulants commonly used in the process of removal of oocysts was analyzed.

On stability of cellular neural networks with polynomial interactions.

Cellular neural/nonlinear networks (CNNs) are analog dynamic processor arrays, that present local interconnections. CNN models with polynomial interactions among the cells (Polynomial type CNNs) have been recently introduced. They are useful for solving some complex computational problems and for real-time implementation of PDE-based algorithms.

Risk factors for tuberculosis infection and disease.

We conducted a prospective study among patients with newly diagnosed pulmonary tuberculosis and their close contacts to identify clinical and socio-economic risk factors for tuberculosis infection and disease. Ninety patients and 277 contacts were enrolled. The prevalence of infection was 45% [95% confidence interval (CI): 39-51%] among contacts.

[Cryptosporidium y Giardia in surface water].

The aim of this work was to determine Giardia and Cryptosporidium levels in surface water used either as recreational or drinking water source, and to estimate the relationship with bacteriological and physicochemical parameters determining water quality. This study was carried out during 22 months, in Santa Fe and Santo Tomé cities (Santa Fe Province, Argentina). Cryptosporidium from 100% of the recreational samples (44-2404 oocysts/100 l) and from 92% of water sources (< 20-539 oocysts/100 l) was detected, while Giardia was found in lower concentrations and frequencies: 72% (< 20-670 cysts/100 l) and 31% (< 20-65 cysts/100 l), respectively.

[Cryptosporidium and water].

During the last years, cryptosporidiosis has been recognized as an important cause of diarrheal disease. According to different references, water has been an important vehicle responsible for the transmission in many epidemic outbreaks. The high number of oocysts eliminated by human and animal hosts, as well as low infectious dose and its resistance to desinfectants are some factors which contribute to the infectious risk.

[Correlated study of visual evoked potentials-polyneuropathy in diabetic patients without retinopathy].

The functional study of visual pathways by means of pattern reversals VEPs (visual evoked potentials) was used as a noninvasive method in the study of diabetic patients, but the correlations between alterations in VEPs and the involvement of peripheral nervous system were not explored. Among 35 diabetic patients not suffering from retinopathy, we tested early deteriorations in visual pathways by means of pattern reversals VEPs and we considered similarities between these alterations, clinical metabolic parameters of the disease and clinical and paraclinical aspects of polyneuropathy (PNP). Four of these patients were insulin-dependent and 31 non-insulin-dependent, all with normal electroretinography and fluorangiography.
