Purpose: This outpatient multicenter trial tested the hypothesis that subcutaneous administration of an interleukin-2 (IL-2)/interferon alfa (IFN alpha) combination produces a response rate greater than 20% in patients with renal cell carcinoma (RCC).

Patients And Methods: Patients with metastatic RCC received a 12-week induction treatment with subcutaneous IL-2 (5 days/wk, 9 and 18 million U/d)/IFN alpha (3 days/wk, 6 million U/d). After evaluation, patients with objective response or stable disease were randomly assigned to maintenance treatment or short consolidation treatment.

Background/aims: Chemotherapy provides dismal results in advanced pancreatic cancer patients, even when new compounds, such as gemcitabine, are used. Phase I studies of single-drug therapy with docetaxel or irinotecan suggested a response rate of about 15% in these patients. We report here a phase II study of docetaxel-irinotecan combination in advanced pancreatic cancer patients.

Background: To confirm the hypothesis that reducing the interval between surgery and adjuvant chemotherapy could improve prognosis, a randomized multicentric study of adjuvant perioperative chemotherapy (POC) in breast cancer was initiated.

Methods: A total of 552 patients were randomized to evaluate whether the addition of POC to standard adjuvant treatment significantly improved outcome. Patients were stratified according to menopausal status, with 362 patients in the postmenopausal group and 192 patients in the premenopausal group.
