Methods: In 85 normal term pregnancies, 42 in smoking and 43 in non-smoking mothers, we measured ghrelin in the maternal blood at the onset of labor and in the cord blood of their 85 singletons immediately after birth. We determined the relationships between ghrelin and placental GH (PGH), pituitary GH (pitGH), and IGF-I.
Background: The safety and efficacy of an attenuated G1P[8] human rotavirus (HRV) vaccine were tested in a randomized, double-blind, phase 3 trial.
Methods: We studied 63,225 healthy infants from 11 Latin American countries and Finland who received two oral doses of either the HRV vaccine (31,673 infants) or placebo (31,552 infants) at approximately two months and four months of age. Severe gastroenteritis episodes were identified by active surveillance.
Purpose: To evaluate the safety, feasibility, and clinical efficacy of percutaneous transhepatic injection of beta-cell grafts in patients with type 1 diabetes mellitus.
Materials And Methods: Between December 2001 and November 2003, 15 patients with C-peptide-negative type 1 diabetes underwent 31 percutaneous injections for intraportal implantation of beta-cell grafts. Grafts consisted of cultured beta-cell preparations as previously described.

Gemzar is a nucleoside analog that has been shown to be superior to 5-fluorouracil for the treatment of advanced pancreatic cancer in terms of both clinical benefit and survival. This open label program enrolled 214 patients. Patients eligible for this program had advanced or metastatic pancreatic cancer, received up to one previous chemotherapy, a baseline Karnofsky performance status (KPS) of at least 50, measurable or evaluable disease, adequate organ function defined as: absolute leucocyte count > 3 x 10(9)/L, platelet count > 100 x 10(9)/L, hemoglobin > 9 gr/dL, total bilirubin < 2 x upper limit of normal (ULN), creatinine < 2 x ULN, ALT and AST levels < 5 x ULN and were at least 18 years.
