Effect of raloxifene on periapical lesions in ovariectomized rats.

Introduction: The aim of this study was to evaluate the effect of raloxifene (RLX) during progression of periapical lesions in ovariectomized (OVX) rats.

Methods: Female Wistar rats were OVX or subjected to sham surgery and received vehicle or RLX by gavage for 90 days. The treatment groups were as follows: sham surgery and treated with vehicle (SHAM-veh), OVX and treated with vehicle (OVX-veh), and OVX and treated with RLX (OVX-RLX).

Apical periodontitis and periodontal disease increase serum IL-17 levels in normoglycemic and diabetic rats.

Objectives: This study aimed to evaluate the influence of apical periodontitis (AP) and/or periodontal disease (PD) on serum interleukin-17 (IL-17) levels in a rat model of diabetes mellitus (DM).

Methods: Eighty male Wistar rats were divided into eight groups of ten animals each: normoglycemic, AP, PD, AP+PD, DM, DM+AP, DM+PD, and DM+AP+PD. DM was induced using streptozotocin, AP by dental pulp exposure to the oral environment, and PD by periodontal ligature.

Immunoexpression of keratins in the calcifying cystic odontogenic tumor epithelium.

Ameloblastomatous epithelium containing clusters of ghost cells is the typical histopathology of calcifying cystic odontogenic tumor (CCOT). This paper aimed to assess keratins AE1-AE3, K7, K10/13, K14, K18, K19, vimentin, laminin, and collagen IV in 08 CCOTs to discuss their histopathogenesis. Similarity to the immunoprofile of the stratified squamous epithelium was seen in the with the basal layer expressing K14 and the upper cells expressing K10/13.

Effect of radiotherapy on the radiopacity and flexural strength of a composite resin.

The aim of this study was to evaluate the effect of radiotherapy on the radiopacity and flexural strength of composite resin. Forty Z250 composite resin specimens were polymerized using a halogen light-curing unit and divided into 5 groups, in accordance with the radiotherapy dose: G1- without irradiation, G2- 30 Gy, G3- 40 Gy, G4- 50 Gy and GS- 60 Gy Digital images were obtained using a GE 100 X-ray. Radiopacity values were obtained with the Digora digital imaging system and the flexural strength was evaluated with an EMIC universal testing machine.
