Environmental DNA (eDNA) is revolutionizing how we investigate biodiversity in aquatic and terrestrial environments. It is increasingly used for detecting rare and invasive species, assessing biodiversity loss and monitoring fish communities, as it is considered a cost-effective and noninvasive approach. Some environments, however, can be challenging for eDNA analyses.

Introduction: Primary membranous nephropathy (PMN) is most often caused by autoantibodies to phospholipase A2 receptor (PLA2R). M-PLACE (NCT04145440) is an open-label, phase 1b/2a study that assessed the safety and efficacy of the fully human anti-CD38 monoclonal antibody felzartamab in high-risk anti-PLA2R+ PMN.

Methods: Patients with newly diagnosed or relapsed PMN (cohort 1 [C1];  = 18) or PMN refractory to immunosuppressive therapy (IST) (cohort 2 [C2];  = 13) received 9 infusions of felzartamab 16 mg/kg in the 24-week treatment period, followed by a 28-week follow-up.

A novel framework for crash frequency prediction: Geographic support vector regression based on agent-based activity models in Greater Melbourne.

The field of spatial analysis in traffic crash studies can often enhance predictive performance by addressing the inherent spatial dependence and heterogeneity in crash data. This research introduces the Geographical Support Vector Regression (GSVR) framework, which incorporates generated distance matrices, to assess spatial variations and evaluate the influence of a wide range of factors, including traffic, infrastructure, socio-demographic, travel demand, and land use, on the incidence of total and fatal-or-serious injury (FSI) crashes across Greater Melbourne's zones. Utilizing data from the Melbourne Activity-Based Model (MABM), the study examines 50 indicators related to peak hour traffic and various commuting modes, offering a detailed analysis of the multifaceted factors affecting road safety.

Genetic parameters of feeding behaviour traits in ducks bred for foie gras production.

The mule duck accounts for over 90% of French foie gras production, a sector where feed represents two-thirds of production costs. This study focuses on analysing the feeding behaviours of the mule duck and its parental populations (Pekin and Muscovy) using automated feeders. To assess feed efficiency, feed conversion ratio and residual feed intake were analysed, along with six traits derived at the daily and meal levels.

Background: Antibody-mediated rejection is a leading cause of kidney-transplant failure. The targeting of CD38 to inhibit graft injury caused by alloantibodies and natural killer (NK) cells may be a therapeutic option.

Methods: In this phase 2, double-blind, randomized, placebo-controlled trial, we assigned patients with antibody-mediated rejection that had occurred at least 180 days after transplantation to receive nine infusions of the CD38 monoclonal antibody felzartamab (at a dose of 16 mg per kilogram of body weight) or placebo for 6 months, followed by a 6-month observation period.

Rethinking referral systems in rural chiapas: A mixed methods study.

Background: Despite the assurance of universal health coverage, large disparities exist in access to surgery in the state of Chiapas. The purpose of this study was to determine the effectiveness of the surgical referral system at hospitals operated by the Ministry of Health in Chiapas.

Transforming care for patients living with diabetes in rural Mexico: a qualitative study of patient and provider experiences and perceptions of shared medical appointments.

Background: Global prevalence of diabetes is increasing, causing widespread morbidity, mortality and increased healthcare costs. Providing quality care in a timely fashion to people with diabetes in low-resource settings can be challenging. In the underserved state of Chiapas, Mexico, which has some of the lowest diabetes detection and control rates in the country, there is a need to implement strategies that improve care for patients with diabetes.
