Introduction: Extrapulmonary legionella disease is rare and occasionally reported in immunocompromised patients; it includes lymphadenitis, panniculitis, hepatitis, atrio-ventricular block, arthritis, prosthetic valve endocarditis and myocarditis. In this article, we report a rare case of legionella suppurative lymphadenitis in an immunocompetent patient.
Case: 53-year-old female patient from the Philippines, non-smoker, previously healthy who presented to our facility for chills and respiratory distress following a course of corticosteroid intake.
Invasive aspergillosis (IA) is a life-threatening infection in severely immunocompromised haematological malignancy patients. In this study, the efficacy and safety of caspofungin, voriconazole or the combination as primary and salvage therapy in patients with IA were compared. The study included 181 patients with haematological malignancies and IA who received primary or salvage therapy with caspofungin, voriconazole or the combination.

Very few data are available in this patient population to differentiate IA patients with A. terreus from those with non-terreus species of Aspergillus to compare outcomes.

Methods: In this review, we evaluated 299 patients with 304 episodes of S. aureus-CLABSI between 2005 and 2011.
Procalcitonin (PCT) and pro-adrenomedullin (ProADM) have been proposed as diagnostic and prognostic biomarkers of infection. Between July 2009 and January 2012, we studied the role of these biomarkers in 163 patients with clustered gram-positive and gram-negative bacteremia. PCT levels were significantly higher in patients with Staphylococcus aureus and gram-negative bacteremia than those with coagulase-negative staphylococci (CoNS) isolated from blood cultures (P = 0.

Many more of these species are being discovered worldwide, especially in resource-poor settings. These microorganisms have been known to cause outbreaks and pseudo-outbreaks.
