Aim: To explore short-term barriers and enablers to maintaining behaviour changes in adults with type 2 diabetes who had completed a lifestyle behaviour change program.

In this work, we describe the synthesis of halogenated pyran analogues of ᴅ-talose using a halo-divergent strategy from known 1,6-anhydro-2,3-dideoxy-2,3-difluoro-β-ᴅ-mannopyranose. In solution and in the solid-state, all analogues adopt standard -like conformations despite 1,3-diaxial repulsion between the F2 and the C4 halogen. Moreover, the solid-state conformational analysis of halogenated pyrans reveals deviation in the intra-annular torsion angles arising from repulsion between the axial fluorine at C2 and the axial halogen at C4, which increases with the size of the halogen at C4 (F < Cl < Br < I).

In this work, we synthesized an hexasaccharide derived from the capsular polysaccharide of group B type III capsular polysaccharide. Our convergent 3 + 3 strategy avoided the use of benzyl protecting groups allowing the installation of an azide anchoring group and providing a high yield for the final deprotection steps. Moreover, the minimal hexasaccharidic epitope was conjugated to CRM and BSA via copper-catalyzed azide-alkyne cycloaddition for the preparation of a semisynthetic carbohydrate-based vaccine.

In this work, we have developed an approach for the synthesis of sugar amino acid oligomers based on the glucosamine scaffold. We found that the solid-phase approach was unsuccessful for the preparation of sugar amino acid oligomers and the limitation of the liquid-phase approach revolved around the low solubility of larger oligomers. Nevertheless, this strategy allowed the coupling of alkynylated carbohydrate amino acids with podophyllotoxin-bearing an azide functional group yielding novel podophyllotoxin analogues.

Evidence is mixed regarding whether and why bilingual children might be advantaged in the development of executive functions. Five preregistered hypotheses regarding sources of a bilingual advantage were tested with data from 102 Spanish-English bilingual children and 25 English monolingual children who were administered a test of executive attention, the flanker task, at 7, 8, and 9 years of age. In this work, we have developed a simple synthetic approach using EtN·3HF as an alternative to the DAST reagent. We controlled the stereochemistry of the nucleophilic fluorination at C4 of 1,6-anhydro-2,3-dideoxy-2,3-difluoro-4--triflate-β-ᴅ-talopyranose using EtN·3HF or in situ generated EtN·1HF. The influence of the fluorine atom at C2 on reactivity at C4 could contribute to a new fluorine effect in nucleophilic substitution.
