The vast majority of neuroendocrine 'neoplasms (NENs) are sporadic, although recent evidence has indicated that a subset of these cancers may also originate as a result of genetic germline mutations. To date, 10% of these cancers can be linked to an inherited genetic syndrome. Genetic diagnosis is crucial for patients with a suspected hereditary NEN syndrome, as it recognizes patients carrying germline mutations and allows for personalized clinical follow-up, considering the higher risk of developing other tumours.

Silicosis, a fibrotic lung disease caused by crystalline silica inhalation, presents unique challenges in lung transplantation. This case reports an unprecedented complication in a lung transplant recipient with chronic silicosis. A man in his 60 s, post left single-lung transplantation for silica-induced pneumoconiosis, developed acute respiratory deterioration following routine bronchoscopy.

The population of very elderly patients (aged 80 years and older) in intensive care units (ICUs) is steadily growing. These patients have unique physiological, cognitive, functional, and social characteristics that affect their entire ICU course. The ultrastructural features of spermatogenesis of the species and the sequence of events leading to sperm bundle formation along the deferent duct lumen revealed the origin and evolution of the apical structure protecting the sperm bundles. Elongated layers of the electron-dense material of variable size and thickness are visible over the microvilli of the distal deferent duct epithelium.

This narrative review explores the implementation and impact of sepsis code protocols, an urgent intervention strategy designed to improve clinical outcomes in patients with sepsis. We examined the degree of implementation, activation criteria, areas of implementation, personnel involved, responses after activation, goals and targets, impact on clinical indicators, and challenges in implementation. The reviewed evidence suggests that sepsis codes can significantly reduce sepsis-related mortality and enhance early administration of treatments.

Introduction: Systemic treatment options for renal cell carcinoma (RCC) have expanded considerably in recent years, and both tyrosine kinase inhibitors and immune checkpoint inhibitors, alone or in combination, have entered the clinical arena. Adoptive cell immunotherapies have recently revolutionized the treatment of cancer and hold the promise to further advance the treatment of RCC.
Areas Covered: In this review, we summarize the latest preclinical and clinical development in the field of adoptive cell immunotherapy for the treatment of RCC, focusing on lymphokine-activated killer (LAK) cells, cytokine-induced killer (CIK) cells, tumor-infiltrating T cells (TILs), TCR-engineered T cells, chimeric antigen receptor (CAR) T cells, and dendritic cell vaccination strategies.
The use of herbicides and their long persistence in the environment have raised concerns about potential harm to ecosystems and human health. However, there is a gap in the knowledge regarding the effects of continuous exposure to residues or admitted field doses on non-target organisms such as insects that inhabit croplands and play key ecological roles. Furthermore, the potential impact of this exposure on host-pathogen interactions remains largely unstudied.

Methods: A descriptive phenomenological qualitative study was conducted among clinical and nonclinical ICU personnel. Simulations and interviews were conducted until data saturation was achieved.
We report the case of an 87-year-old female patient who was diagnosed with metastatic non-small-cell lung cancer harboring exon 14 skipping mutation ( ex14) and PD-L1 expression of 60%. A first-line treatment with atezolizumab was started with primary resistance. Then, a second-line treatment with capmatinib, a selective type Ib MET tyrosine kinase inhibitor, was started, achieving a partial response.
