The differential diagnosis of anteromedial knee pain is extensive and can be associated with meniscal tear, medial collateral ligament sprain, or pes anserinus bursitis. An association between knee pain and a peripheral nerve sheath tumor has rarely been reported. The authors describe the case of a 44-year-old man with a saphenous nerve schwannoma who presented with vague pain in the medial aspect of his knee mimicking the clinical presentation of a meniscal tear.

Synopsis of recent research by authors named "Gianni M Refice"

  • - Gianni M Refice's research primarily focuses on the intersection of neurology and orthopedic conditions, particularly examining how peripheral nerve issues can manifest as pain in adjacent musculoskeletal structures.
  • - In his case report from 2007, he presents a unique instance of a saphenous nerve schwannoma contributing to knee pain, highlighting the complexity of differential diagnoses in such cases.
  • - The findings emphasize the importance of considering peripheral nerve sheath tumors in patients presenting with knee pain, which can often be incorrectly attributed to more common injuries like meniscal tears.
