Hemophagocytic lymphohistiocytosis (HLH) is a life-threatening systemic hyperinflammatory syndrome, rarely associated with bone marrow failure (BMF). Telomere biology disorders (TBD) are caused by inherited defects in telomerase processes and can have heterogeneous presentations including idiopathic pulmonary fibrosis, cirrhosis, and BMF. We report a case of a 10-year-old male from Lima, Peru, who presented with HLH as the initial manifestation of a TBD.

This systematic review and meta-analysis aimed to review the current evidence on the effect of the administration of HI compared with NHI for improving iron status in non-hospitalized population groups.
Methods: We searched Pubmed, CENTRAL, Scopus, Web of Science, and LILACS from inception to July 2024.
Unlabelled: Studies on the severity in multisystem inflammatory syndrome in children (MIS-C) show heterogeneous results and may not reflect a global perspective. This systematic review aims to estimate the frequency of in-hospital unfavorable outcomes in patients with MIS-C over the 3 years since the onset of the SARS-CoV-2 pandemic. A systematic search was conducted in Medline, Scopus, Embase, Cochrane, Web of Science, Scielo, and preprint repositories until December 15, 2022.

Methods: Parents of children aged 12-17 years in Lima, Perú were asked to complete an online questionnaire via social networks, from November 9, 2021, to April 23, 2022. We calculated crude and adjusted prevalence ratios with 95% confidence intervals to compare factors with the mentioned outcomes.
Vitamin D is essential for bone metabolism and has gained popularity since the general population is now more aware of its benefits. Unfortunately, the availability of unregulated vitamin D formulations without prescription increases the risk of inadvertently ingesting excessive doses of vitamin D. Reports of pediatric cases of vitamin D toxicity are scarce in the world literature.

Prospective observational studies have reported significant associations between higher intake of UPFs and adverse health outcomes. The aim of this study is to determine whether these associations could be confirmed in randomized controlled trials (RCTs).

Methods: We conducted an umbrella review, searching Medline, Scopus, EMBASE, Cochrane Library, and LILACS databases for systematic reviews from December 1, 2012, to December 1, 2022. We have included meta-analyses of randomized controlled trials (RCTs) and cohort studies.

Systematic review using GRADE of the impact of exposure to volatile organic compounds (VOCs), cleaning agents, mould/damp, pesticides on the risk of (i) new-onset asthma (incidence) and (ii) adverse asthma-related outcomes (impact). MEDLINE, EMBASE and Web of Science were searched for indoor pollutant exposure studies reporting on new-onset asthma and critical and important asthma-related outcomes. Ninety four studies were included: 11 for VOCs (7 for incidenceand 4 for impact), 25 for cleaning agents (7 for incidenceand 8 for impact), 48 for damp/mould (26 for incidence and 22 for impact) and 10 for pesticides (8 for incidence and 2 for impact).

Objective: To determine the short-, mid-, and long-term complications after multisystem inflammatory syndrome in children (MIS-C) over a 24-month follow-up period in a hospital in Lima, Peru, 2020-2022, and to explore differences according to the immunomodulatory treatment received and type of SARS-CoV-2 virus circulating.
Methods: Ambispective 24-month follow-up study in children <14 years of age diagnosed with MIS-C at the Hospital Nacional Edgardo Rebagliati Martins (HNERM).
Results: A total of 62 children were admitted with MIS-C.
Objective: To describe lung mechanics in Pediatric Acute Respiratory Distress Syndrome (PARDS) associated with acute COVID-19 and MIS-C with respiratory failure.
Methods: A concurrent multicenter observational study was performed, analyzing clinical variables and pulmonary mechanics of PARDS associated with COVID-19 in 4 Pediatric intensive care units (PICU) in Peru. The subgroup analysis included PARDS associated with multisystem inflammatory syndrome in children (MIS-C), MIS-PARDS, and PARDS with COVID-19 primary respiratory infection, C-PARDS.
Unlabelled: The multisystem inflammatory syndrome in children associated with COVID-19 (MIS-C) is infre quent but potentially lethal. There are few reports of this disease and its phenotypes in Latin America.
Objective: To describe the characteristics of the clinical phenotypes of MIS-C in hospitalized patients in Lima, Peru.
Background: Child development is a complex biological, psychological, and emotional process. Timely screening for developmental delay allows early interventions. Therefore, this study sought to assess the frequency and characteristics of developmental delay in children < 5 years of age who attended the Pediatric Rehabilitation Service of a referral hospital in Peru.

However, questions remain regarding its availability and applicability in the real world. It is unclear whether an approach to the extended window EVT that does not use ADVI would be equivalent.

Background: Children with cancer are at risk of critical disease and mortality from COVID-19 infection. In this study, we describe the clinical characteristics of pediatric patients with cancer and COVID-19 from multiple Latin American centers and risk factors associated with mortality in this population.
Methods: This study is a multicenter, prospective cohort study conducted at 12 hospitals from 6 Latin American countries (Argentina, Bolivia, Colombia, Ecuador, Honduras and Peru) from April to November 2021.
Background: Clinical practice guidelines (CPGs) are statements that should be rigorously developed to guide clinicians' decision-making. However, given the scarce evidence for certain vulnerable groups like children, CPGs' recommendations formulation could be challenging.
Methods: We conducted a scoping review of CPGs for COVID-19 management in children.
Introduction: Coronavirus 2019 (SARS-CoV-2) infection in children occurred in Peru as of March 2020, leading to pediatric patients' hospitalization in areas adapted for this purpose at the Edgardo Rebagliati Martins National Hospital. In the beginning, the demand for hospitalization was low, but it increased gradually. Consistent with international reports, the majority of patients presented mild or moderate symptoms.
