Background: Rupture of the distal biceps brachii tendon has most commonly been repaired by anatomic reattachment of the tendon to the radial tuberosity by a single- or two-incision approach. Researchers have studied suture anchor attachment through a single incision, but the tendon-suture interface and bone quality have not previously been analyzed.

Hypothesis: Suture anchor repair results in stiffness and tensile strength equal to that of bone-tunnel repair for biceps tendon rupture.

The purpose of this investigation was to determine the effectiveness of commercially available wrist guards in preventing wrist fractures. Forty arms were harvested from 20 cadaveric specimens. The forearms from each cadaver, one with a wrist guard and one without a wrist guard, were then fractured using an instron Servohydraulic Material Testing System.

Study Design: Radiographs and charts of 61 patients sustaining cervical spine trauma were studied prospectively to determine the incidence of vertebral artery injuries and possible correlative factors. Statistical analysis was conducted using chi-square testing of a two-way classification system.

Objectives: To elucidate the incidence of vertebral artery injuries associated with cervical spine trauma, and to determine the value of various factors in predicting the existence of a vertebral artery injury.

Improvements in myocardial protection, surgical technique, and postoperative care have decreased operative mortality for neonatal repair of truncus arteriosus. Primary repair of truncus arteriosus in infancy without prior pulmonary artery banding is currently the preferred approach. During the period from 1982 to December 1990, 32 patients under the age of 12 months underwent surgical correction of truncus arteriosus at UCLA.
