Unlabelled: Pituitary apoplexy is an uncommon condition typically resulting from a sudden haemorrhage within a pituitary adenoma. This bleed can present clinically with a wide array of signs and symptoms. This report documents the case of a 62-year-old male who presented to the Lebanese Hospital Geitaoui University Medical Center with signs and symptoms of meningeal irritation.

Oral manifestations associated with inherited hyperhomocysteinemia: A first case description.

Hyperhomocysteinemia is a rare disease caused by nutritional deficiencies or genetic impairment of cysteine metabolism. To date, no oral manifestations of hyperhomocysteinemia have been described in humans. Therefore, to our knowledge, the present case report is the first description of a hyperhomocysteinemic patient showing oral tissue alterations leading to both early tooth loss and failed implant osseointegration.

Poor Biointegration of Porcine Acellular Dermal Matrix Associated with Unfavorable Gingival Healing: A Report of Three Cases.

Aim: The aim of the present work was to explain the poor biointegration of acellular dermal xenogeneic matrix, leading to an unfavorable gingival healing following a grafting procedure for the treatment of soft tissue deficiencies.

Intestinal presentation of non-Hodgkin lymphoma: Case report.

Background: MEITL (monomorphic epitheliotropic intestinal T-cell lymphoma) is a rare primary intestinal T-cell lymphoma associated with high mortality rate. Being intestinal this implies difficult diagnostic workup and management.

A Liposarcoma Arising in a Pulmonary Hamartoma, Coexisting With Benign Metastasizing Leiomyoma.

Pulmonary hamartoma is a common benign tumor that rarely degenerates into malignancy. This report documents a unique case of pulmonary hamartoma with malignant transformation into well-differentiated liposarcoma, coexisting in proximity to pulmonary nodules representing benign metastasizing leiomyoma in a 60-year-old woman.

The diagnostic performance of a simulated "short" gadoxetic acid-enhanced MRI protocol is similar to that of a conventional protocol for the detection of colorectal liver metastases.

Objectives: To compare the performance of standard and simulated short gadoxetic acid-enhanced MRI protocols for the detection of colorectal liver metastases (CRLM).

Methods: From 2008 to 2017, 67 patients (44 men (66%); mean age 65 ± 11 years old) who underwent gadoxetic acid-enhanced MRI during the initial work-up for colorectal cancer were included. Exams were independently reviewed by two readers blinded to clinical data in two reading sessions: (1) all acquired sequences (standard "long" protocol) and (2) only T2-weighted, diffusion-weighted, and hepatobiliary phase images (simulated "short" protocol).

ALK gene rearrangement status in non-squamous non-small cell lung carcinoma in the Middle Eastern population.

Background: Worldwide, the frequency of ALK rearrangement ranges between 3-6%, however its prevalence in the Middle Eastern population has not been reported. The aim of this study is to determine the frequency of the ALK rearrangement, as well as the clinico-pathologic characteristics of Lebanese patients with ALK-rearranged lung adenocarcinoma.

Methods: 152 patients diagnosed with non-squamous non-small cell lung carcinomas (NSCLC), at Hôtel-Dieu de France University Hospital between February 2014 and July 2016, were included in the study.

Jugular venous reflux may mimic type I dural arterio-venous fistula on arterial spin labeling magnetic resonance images.

Purpose: Previous studies have shown that arterial spin-labeling (ASL) has high sensitivity and specificity for detecting dural arteriovenous fistulas (DAVFs). However, in case of jugular venous reflux (JVR), the labeled protons in the jugular vein may lead to a venous hypersignal in the jugular vein, sigmoid, and transverse sinus on ASL images and mimic DAVF.

Methods: To ascertain this hypothesis, two blinded senior neuroradiologists independently and retrospectively reviewed randomized ASL images and graded the likelihood of DAVF on a 5-point Likert scale in 2 groups of patients: (i) 13 patients with angiographically proven type I DAVF; and (ii) 11 patients with typical JVR diagnosed on the basis of clinical and MR imaging data, first using ASL alone, and second using ASL together with all of the sequences including 4D CE MRA.

Correlations of neck ultrasound and pathology in cervical lymph node of papillary thyroid carcinoma.

High-resolution sonography is becoming a method of choice for the detection and diagnosis of cervical lymph node metastasis in patients with papillary thyroid carcinoma (PTC). The purpose of this study is to assess the diagnostic accuracy of neck ultrasound (US) in the detection of lymph node metastases from PTC. Data for all patients with papillary thyroid cancers and preoperative neck US were reviewed retrospectively.

Comparing laparoscopic and percutaneous renal biopsy for diagnosing native kidney disease: A matched pair analysis.

Background: Percutaneous renal biopsy is a well-established diagnostic procedure in patients with underlying medical renal disease. Aim of this study is to compare the adequacy of the biopsy material, the diagnostic yield, and the complication rates of the trans-peritoneal laparoscopic approach and the image-guided percutaneous approach to renal biopsy in the diagnosis of native kidney disease.

Methods: We performed a matched-pair analysis matching 1:3 40 patients who underwent trans-peritoneal laparoscopic renal biopsy to 120 patients who underwent percutaneous renal biopsy in the same years.

Sporadic colon cancer in Lebanon: A clinicopathological study.

Human papillomavirus prevalence and clinicopathological associations in oropharyngeal squamous cell carcinoma in the Lebanese population.

Objectives: To evaluate for the first time the prevalence of human papillomavirus in oropharyngeal squamous cell carcinoma in a Middle-Eastern population, and to determine associations between human papillomavirus profiles and clinicopathological characteristics.

Methods: A retrospective chart review was conducted of all patients treated for oropharyngeal squamous cell carcinoma at the Hotel Dieu de France University Hospital (Beirut, Lebanon) between January 2010 and 2016. Existing formalin-fixed paraffin-embedded tumour samples were analysed.

Febuxostat-associated eosinophilic polymyositis in marginal zone lymphoma.

Febuxostat is an orally administered selective inhibitor of xanthine oxidase approved for the treatment of gout and prevention of tumor lysis syndrome. It is a relatively safe medication. Hypersensitivity reactions associated with the use of febuxostat are quite rare with only one reported case of DRESS syndrome.

Mesotheliomas in Lebanon: Witnessing a Change in Epidemiology.

Background: Mesotheliomas are relatively rare tumors in Lebanon. The only previous study goes back to 14 years ago, when we published epidemiological characteristics of mesotheliomas in Lebanon, showing that the pleural location accounted for the vast majority of cases, with clear evidence of asbestos exposure from the Eternit factory of Chekka region. The objective of this current study was to estimate the incidence of mesothelioma in the past decade and to identify its epidemiological, clinical and therapeutic characteristics, making comparisons with our first study published in 2001.

Digestive Neuroendocrine Tumor Distribution and Characteristics According to the 2010 WHO Classification: a Single Institution Experience in Lebanon.

Background: Gastro-entero-pancreatic neuroendocrine neoplasms (GEP-NEN) are relatively rare tumors, not equally distributed in the gastrointestinal system. In 2010, a revised version of the WHO classification of GEP-NENs was published. This study reports for the first time the distribution and characteristics of GEP-NENs in a Lebanese population.

Distribution and Characteristics of Pulmonary Neuroendocrine Tumors: Single Institution Experience in Lebanon.

Background: Neuroendocrine tumors represent 20% of primary lung neoplasms in some registries. According to the WHO classification of 2004, reconsidered for 2015, these lung tumors are divided into 4 groups: typical and atypical carcinoid, small cell and large cell neuroendocrine carcinomas. We report in this paper, for the first time in Lebanon, the distribution and the population characteristics of these tumors.

Safety of rituximab in a patient with chronic renal failure and low-grade non-Hodgkin lymphoma.

An 82-year-old man, with known chronic renal failure and a creatinine clearance (CrCl) of 18 mL/min, was diagnosed with low-grade marginal zone non-Hodgkinlymphoma (NHL) of his right orbit. He received rituximab as single treatment (375 mg/m 2 every 3 weeks). After eight cycles, almost complete response was obtained, rituximab was extremely well-tolerated, and his creatinine levels remained stable throughout the whole treatment.

EGFR mutation status in Middle Eastern patients with non-squamous non-small cell lung carcinoma: A single institution experience.

Background: Epidermal growth factor receptor (EGFR) represents an important molecular target in the treatment of lung adenocarcinomas; many anti-EGFR therapies are approved as first line and second-line treatment in patients having metastatic lung adenocarcinomas.
