The lateral antebrachial cutaneous nerve (LACN) is the sensory branch of the musculocutaneous nerve and usually innervates the lateral aspect of the forearm. Isolated lesions are rare, of varied aetiology and generally underdiagnosed. We present a retrospective descriptive study of electromyography performed at the General University Hospital of Castellón in the last 20 years with isolated NCAL lesion.

Article Synopsis
  • The lateral antebrachial cutaneous nerve (LACN) is a sensory nerve that often affects the outer forearm; however, isolated issues with it are uncommon and frequently misdiagnosed.
  • A study at the General University Hospital of Castellón over 20 years identified 11 cases of isolated LACN lesions, predominantly in men around 44 years old, with most cases linked to earlier trauma.
  • Symptoms included loss of sensation extending to the wrist and thumb, with electromyography revealing varying levels of nerve damage, and outcomes were poorer for those with more severe involvement, highlighting the need for awareness and proper surgical techniques to avoid nerve complications.

The incidence of peptic ulcers has decreased during the last decades; the COVID-19 pandemic may have influenced the peptic ulcer hospitalizations. The study aimed to assess the admissions and mortality for complicated and uncomplicated peptic ulcers and the influence of the pandemic period. Material and We performed an observational study at a tertiary academic center, including all patients admitted for peptic ulcers between 2017-2021.

Article Synopsis
  • - The paper examines how diluting ammonia with nitrogen affects the growth and composition of nitrided layers on two types of steel—Fe-ARMCO and 34CrAlMo5 nitralloy steel.
  • - It employs experimental programming and mathematical modeling to analyze the impact of key parameters like nitriding temperature and ammonia dissociation on layer growth kinetics.
  • - The study finds that both the dilution of ammonia and the degree of ammonia dissociation play crucial roles in determining the nitrogen potential of the gaseous mixture used in nitriding, which subsequently affects nitrogen concentration at the metal surface.

Introduction: Sensory innervation of the dorsomedial surface of the hand usually depends on the dorsal ulnar nerve (DUN). Innervation in this area by the superficial radial nerve (SRN) has been described as a normal variant.

Methods: We studied 358 patients using nerve conduction of the DUN and SRN with dorsomedial recording.

Background: Patients with acromegaly (caused by growth-hormone-secreting pituitary adenomas) are at increased risk of hypopituitarism, in particular hypogonadotropic hypogonadism, before and after multimodal therapy. In affected women of reproductive age, fertility is impaired and complex fertility treatments are needed to achieve conception.

Case Presentation: We present the case of a young woman with acromegaly caused by a GH-secreting macroadenoma with suprasellar and bilateral cavernous sinus extension; hypogonadotropic hypogonadism and secondary hypothyroidism were present from the initial evaluation.

Ti-based metallic glasses show high potential for implant applications; they overcome in several crucial respects their well-established biocompatible crystalline counterparts, e.g. improved corrosion properties, higher fracture strength and wear resistance, increased elastic strain range and lower Young's modulus.
