Ischemic preconditioning (IPC) provides ischemic tolerance and neuroprotection during cerebral ischemia reperfusion (CI/R) injury. Diabetes abolishes the beneficial effects of conditioning phenomenon during CI/R. The study investigates the role of T-type calcium ion channel in IPC mediated protection during diabetes mellitus.
View Article and Find Full Text PDFCerebral ischemia disrupts calcium homeostasis in the brain causing excitotoxicity, oxidative stress, inflammation, and neuronal cell apoptosis. During ischemic conditions, T-type calcium channel channels contribute to increase in intracellular calcium ions in both neurons and glial cells therefore, the current study hypothesizes the antagonism of these channels using ML218, a novel specific T-Type inhibitor in experimental model of cerebral ischemia-reperfusion (CI/R) brain injury. CI/R injury was induced in Swiss Albino mice by occlusion of common carotid arteries followed by reperfusion.

The majority are diagnosed in the preclinical routine reliably, despite challenges due to the possibility of multiple differential diagnoses. Hence, this report highlights a case of a postmenopausal female of 53-year-old working as a staff nurse at the same hospital and who visited the outpatient department of obstetrics and gynecology with chief complaints of pain in the right side of the abdomen for four hours (presentation similar to that of appendicitis).

Background: The focus of medicine is shifting from treatment to preventive care. The expression of biomarkers of dementia and Alzheimer's disease (AD) appear decades before the onset of observable symptoms, and evidence has emerged supporting pharmacological and non-pharmacological interventions to treat modifiable risk factors of dementia. However, there is limited research on the epidemiology, clinical phenotypes, and underlying pathobiology of cognitive diseases in Asian populations.

Here, we thus examined the contribution of brain structural and perfusion imaging and behavioural features to the existing classification of cognitive syndromes using a data-driven approach.
Methods: Study participants belonged to the community-based Biomarker and Cognition Cohort Study in Singapore who underwent neuropsychological assessments, structural-functional MRI and blood biomarkers.
Background: Mild behavioral impairment (MBI) is one of the earliest observable changes when a person experiences cognitive decline and could be an early manifestation of underlying Alzheimer's disease neuropathology. Limited attention has been given to investigating the clinical applicability of behavioral biomarkers for detection of prodromal dementia.
Objective: This study compared the prevalence of self-reported MBI and vascular risk factors in Southeast Asian adults to identify early indicators of cognitive impairment and dementia.
Background & Objectives: Japanese encephalitis virus (JEV) is one of the most important causes of acute and uncontrolled inflammatory disease in Asia. Matrix metalloproteinases (MMPs) and chemokines play a detrimental role in the host response to JE disease, aetiology, and disease outcome. Evidently, MMPs are widely circulated in the brain and regulate various process including microglial activation, inflammation, blood-brain barrier disruption as well as affects central nervous system (CNS).

Method: The authors report a rare presentation of intrathoracic extension of a giant cell tumour of the medial end of the clavicle, in an 18-year-old female.
Objective: The world continues to face the COVID-19 crisis, and efforts are underway to integrate traditional medicine interventions for its effective management. The study aimed to determine the efficacy of the "AYURAKSHA" kit in terms of post-interventional percentage of COVID-19 IgG positivity, immunity levels, and quality of life (QoL) against COVID-19.
Method: This was a non-randomized controlled, prospective intervention trial, done after the distribution of 80,000 AYURAKSHA kits (constituent of Sanshamani Vati, AYUSH Kadha, and Anu Taila) among Delhi police participants in India.
People who have lost their limbs to amputation and neurological disorders confront this loss every morning. As per the literature review, nearly 30% of the Indian population suffered from upper extremity amputation. As a coping-up measure, a force-controlled prosthetic limb has been developed to improve their self-reliance, quality of lifestyle and mental strength.

Most Japanese encephalitis virus (JEV) infections are subclinical; only 1: 250 to 1:1000 infected persons develop clinical presentations. Delay in proper diagnosis of JE affects the timeliness of treatment initiation and increases the mortality rate in patients.

Cytokines, including pro-inflammatory and anti-inflammatory are key regulators playing a detrimental role in the host response to JE infection, pathogenesis and disease outcome. Evidently, the host's cytokine response is genetically determined, representing the complexity of interindividual differences regarding immune response to viral infection.

In this study we aim to determine the association of IL-6 (174) and IL-12B (1188A/C) gene polymorphisms with JEV susceptibility, disease severity and outcomes in north Indian population.
Methods: This study was performed an equal number of cases and control individuals (125).
Context: SARS-CoV-2 is a global public-health concern. Interventions to prevent infection are urgently needed. The anti-inflammatory and antiviral effects of neem make it a potential agent for COVID-19 prophylaxis.

Automated detection of COVID-19 infections in the lungs from Computed Tomography (CT) images offers huge potential in tackling the problem of slow detection and augments the conventional diagnostic procedures. However, segmenting COVID-19 from CT Scans is problematic, due to high variations in the types of infections and low contrast between healthy and infected tissues.

The various cytological specimens submitted for analysis include bronchoalveolar lavage, bronchial wash, brush smears, transbronchial needle aspiration, guided fine needle aspiration cytology (FNAC) smears and pleural fluid. Present study was undertaken to study the spectrum of lesions diagnosed by cytomorphological analysis of various cytological specimens.

Therefore, in the current study we determined the prevalence of CMV infection in pregnant women and tried to identify the role of maternal CMV infection in adverse pregnancy outcomes in Northern India. In this case-control study, 517 pregnant women, out of them 200 in case group and 317 in the control group.
