Canine mammary tumors represent one of the leading malignant pathologies in female dogs, displaying the importance of efficient therapeutic findings, besides the golden-standard surgery, able to limit the development of the disease. Studies in human cancers demonstrated that Doxorubicin presents a good effect in different biological processes like apoptosis, autophagy, the cell cycle, cell invasion, and the epithelial-to-mesenchymal transition. This study followed the effects of Doxorubicin on two canine mammary cancer cell lines P114 and CMT-U27.

Anti-inflammatory and antioxidant efficacy of lavender oil in experimentally induced thrombosis.

Background: Lavender oil (LO) possesses anti-inflammatory, antioxidant, antifungal, antibacterial, sedative, cardio-protective, and antinociceptive properties. Thrombosis and inflammation are interplayed processes that interact and influence one another. Our research compared three routes of administration to assess the efficacy of pretreatment with LO on carrageenan-induced thrombosis in rat tail.

The Impact of Spray Cryotherapy on Lesion-Induced Osteitis in a New Murine Experimental Model.

: Endoscopic sinus surgery is considered the gold management strategy for difficult-to-treat chronic rhinosinusitis. The inflammatory bony process is incriminated as being involved in the unfavorable evolution and recurrence of the disease. Osteitis is significantly increased in patients that have been previously submitted to surgery, and it is more often present in patients with extended radiological disease and in patients undergoing revision surgery.

Using Moralization as a Persuasion Strategy in Public Health Messages: A Cross-Sectional, Experimental Study on Vaping.

Using moralization in anti-vaping public health messages as a persuasion strategy was recently recommended to address the current vaping epidemic. However, previous findings indicated this could lead to moralized attitudes in the general population, which can be very difficult to change and could severely affect social cohesion and distort risk perception. Since the safety and efficiency of using electronic cigarettes as smoking cessation devices are still being investigated, we conducted a cross-sectional, experimental study on a convenience sample of 612 Romanian never vapers, never smokers to assess how exposure to moralizing public health messages about vaping might influence their trust in future scientific results about this topic.

Low-Molecular-Weight Heparins (LMWH) and Synthetic Factor X Inhibitors Can Impair the Osseointegration Process of a Titanium Implant in an Interventional Animal Study.

Cementless total hip arthroplasty is a common surgical procedure and perioperative thromboprophylaxis is used to prevent deep vein thrombosis or pulmonary embolism. Osseointegration is important for long-term implant survival, and there is no research on the effect of different thromboprophylaxis agents on the process of osseointegration. Seventy rats were allocated as follows: Group I (control group), Group II (enoxaparin), Group III (nadroparin), and Group IV (fondaparinux).

Protective Factors against Morally Injurious Memories from the COVID-19 Pandemic on Nurses' Occupational Wellbeing: A Cross-Sectional Experimental Study.

The COVID-19 pandemic was a fertile ground for nurses' exposure to self- and other-Potentially Morally Injurious Events (PMIEs). Our study explored the effects of nurses' memories of self- and other-PMIEs on occupational wellbeing and turnover intentions. Using an experimental design on a convenience sample of 634 Romanian nurses, we tested a conceptual model with PLS-SEM, finding adequate explanatory and predictive power.

Nurses have been frequently exposed to Potentially Morally Injurious Events (PMIEs) during the COVID-19 pandemic. Due to resource scarcity, they both perpetrated (self-PMIEs) and passively witnessed (other-PMIEs) moral transgressions toward the patients, severely violating their moral values. Our study investigated the impact of self- and other-PMIEs on work outcomes by exploring nurses' episodic memories of these events and the basic psychological need thwarting associated with them.

The Moral Impact of the COVID-19 Pandemic on Nurses' Burnout, Work Satisfaction and Adaptive Work Performance: The Role of Autobiographical Memories of Potentially Morally Injurious Events and Basic Psychological Needs.

The COVID-19 pandemic resulted in unprecedented exposure to Potentially Morally Injurious Events (PMIEs) for nurses, in which they were both moral transgressors and moral victims, with deleterious consequences on their psycho-social health and functioning. Our experimental design compared memories of PMIEs with memories of severe moral transgressions (SMTs), in which participants were only moral transgressors. Drawing from Self-Determination Theory and research on moral auto-biographical episodic memories, we assessed a conceptual model describing the impact of recalling a single PMIE or SMT event on nurses' burnout, work satisfaction and adaptive performance.

Ageism against older patients in nursing: conceptual differentiations and the role of moral sensitivity.

Ageism in nursing is difficult to identify, prevent and combat. Using a mixed-method approach in two exploratory cross-sectional studies ( 512), we brought support for a proposed conceptual difference between ageism toward older adults and ageism toward older patients which may facilitate the identification of ageism in healthcare settings. We also investigated whether nurses' moral sensitivity could buffer the negative effect of socio-cognitive factors on ageism against older patients.

A Person-Centered Approach to Moralization-The Case of Vaping.

Using e-cigarettes for smoking cessation is a controversial topic among health experts. Evidence suggests that vaping might have been moralized among the general public. Despite the detrimental consequences of moralizing health behaviors on social cohesion and health, some argue for using moralization strategically to prevent and combat vaping.

Ageism, moral sensitivity and nursing students' intentions to work with older people - A cross-sectional study.

Background: Nursing students' intentions to work with older people are low, despite a worldwide need for gerontological nursing, with ageism being the main culprit. Romania lacks legislation to prevent and combat elder abuse in healthcare, although it is alleged to be rampant among nursing staff. There is also a lack of research on nursing students' ageism toward older people and intentions to work with them.

Whooping cough in South-East Romania: a 1-year study.

The incidence of whooping cough in Romania is substantially underestimated, and, as noted by the health authorities, this is mostly due to the lack of both awareness and biological diagnosis. We conducted a 1-year study in Bucharest in order to assess the circulation of Bordetella pertussis, the main etiological agent of whooping cough. Fifty-one subjects suspected of whooping cough were enrolled.

Infections with hepatitis B and C viruses in patients on maintenance dialysis in Romania and in former communist countries: yellow spots on a blank map?

We studied prospectively, between 1993 and 1998, the prevalence and incidence of markers against hepatitis B virus (HBV), hepatitis C virus (HCV) and hepatitis D virus (HDV), in 180 patients with chronic renal failure, dialysed in the Nephrological Clinic, Cluj. [Factors in the progression of renal insufficiency during the 2 years preceding the use of dialysis].

Divergent effects of Fc gamma RIIIA ligands on the functional activities of human natural killer cells in vitro.

The Fc gamma receptor (R)IIIA (CD 16) plays an important role in regulating the cytotoxic and non-cytotoxic functions of human natural killer (NK) cells. Some anti-CD 16 monoclonal antibodies (mAb) have been shown to stimulate NK activity, while human monomeric (m) IgG induces dose-dependent inhibition of NK activity. To explore further these interactions mediated via Fc gamma RIIIA, purified NK cells were cultured for 2-3 days in the presence of mIgG, 3G8 mAb, interleukin-2 (IL-2) or a combination of mIgG or 3G8 with IL-2.

Effect of interleukin-2 on the monomeric IgG-induced inhibition of human natural killer cell activity.

Monomeric IgG (mIgG) has been previously shown to inhibit human natural killer (NK) cell activity when effector cells were treated prior to the cytotoxic assay. In the present study the interaction between negative regulation by mIgG and positive regulation by interleukin-2 (IL-2) was examined. Although a dose-dependent boosting of NK activity was found upon incubation of nonadherent lymphocytes (NAL) with recombinant or natural IL-2 for 2 h at 37 degrees C, the NK effector cells remained responsive to down-regulation to mIgG.

Regulation of human natural cytotoxicity by IgG. III. Interaction between negative regulation by monomeric IgG and positive regulation by interferons of different types.

Our prior reported results have demonstrated the dose-dependent inhibition of human natural killer (NK) cell activity upon treatment of peripheral blood mononuclear cells (PBMC) with monomeric IgG (mIgG) prior to the cytotoxic assay. In the present study, the combined effects on NK activity of human interferon (IFN) of each of the three types and mIgG, respectively, were determined. NK cells incubated with IFN alpha or IFN beta had augmented cytotoxicity against K562 target cells but remained responsive to negative regulation by mIgG.

Regulation of human natural cytotoxicity by IgG. II. Cyclic AMP as a mediator of monomeric IgG-induced inhibition of natural killer cell activity.

In this study we investigated the mechanism of inhibition of NK activity by monomeric IgG (mIgG) and the enhancement of inhibition induced by 3-isobutyl-1-methylxanthine (IBMX) or theophylline (TP) as inhibitors of cyclic nucleotide phosphodiesterase, or by prostaglandin E2 (PGE2) as an activator of adenyl cyclase. Human peripheral blood mononuclear cells (PBMN) and nonadherent lymphocytes (NAL) were treated with various concentrations of mIgG, IBMX, TP, PGE2, either alone, or in combination. The treatments were done before and/or during the cytotoxicity assay against 51chromium-labeled K562 target cells.

Regulation of human natural cytotoxicity by IgG--I. Characterization of the structural site on monomeric IgG responsible for inhibiting natural killer cell activity.

Inhibition of human natural killer (NK) cell activity upon exposure of peripheral blood lymphocytes (PBL) to IgG in monomeric form (mIgG) was found to be dose-, time- and temp-dependent. PBL incubated for 2 hr at 37 degrees C in the presence of myeloma protein of a certain class or subclass had a significant reduction of their NK activity when exposed to IgG, but not to IgM or IgD, and the IgG-induced inhibition of NK cells was observed only when IgG1 or IgG3 paraproteins were used. IgG3 isolated from normal serum had a higher inhibitory property than that of total mIgG.

Immunologic alterations associated with chronic hemodialysis.

Parameters of humoral immunity were studied in 18 patients with chronic renal failure undergoing hemodialysis. IgG, IgA and IgM serum levels presented no differences compared with healthy donors. High immunoglobulins levels were found in 40 patients with chronic renal failure and conservative treatment.
