Rarely performed nowadays, the Björk procedure is an alternative to the Fontan palliation for biventricular repair in patients with tricuspid atresia. The right atrium to right ventricle conduit failure leads to serious long-term complications. The management of such patients at high surgical risk remains challenging.

Article Synopsis
  • Tunisia faced severe ARDS due to SARS-CoV-2 during the pandemic, necessitating the use of ECMO in patient care when traditional methods failed.
  • The La Rabta teaching hospital utilized telemedicine and social media, specifically a Facebook-Messenger group, to facilitate remote management of ECMO patients across various ICUs.
  • Real-time video conferencing allowed medical professionals to collaboratively address complications and patient needs, demonstrating the potential benefits of digital communication in healthcare, while emphasizing the importance of ethical guidelines.

Introduction: Conventional open repair of a traumatic aortic isthmic rupture is associated with a significantly high mortality and morbidity rates. Thoracic endovascular aortic repair (TEVAR) is currently often performed because it is a less invasive treatment than surgery. The aim of this study was to evaluate short and mid-term results of TEVAR in traumatic aortic isthmic rupture.

Article Synopsis
  • The study aimed to assess the risk factors for upper limb arterial injury, the success rate of limb salvage, and what influences limb loss.
  • Conducted on 128 patients, the study found that most injuries were due to self-harm and involved the brachial artery, with a high overall limb salvage rate of 96.8%.
  • Key factors affecting limb salvage included the mechanism of injury, soft tissue damage, and complications from arterial repairs, highlighting the importance of timely and effective medical intervention.

Introduction: Despite the success of angioplasty of the iliac artery, this technique remains associated with significant amputation rates. The purpose of this study was to identify predictive factors for lower limb amputation after iliac angioplasty in patients with critical ischemia.

Methods: We reported a retrospective study including patients who successfully underwent angioplasty of the iliac artery between 2014 and 2018.

Background: Multiple arterial coronary artery bypass grafting is a controversial surgical procedure that is still uncommon worldwide. The aim of our study was to determine the outcomes and perioperative complications of the multiple arterial myocardial revascularization and their predictive factors, the mid-term and long term clinical and angiographic prognosis of the studied patients.

Methods: This was a single center study of the cardiovascular department of The Rabta hospital.

Bilateral absence of the superior vena cava (SVC) is an uncommon congenital vascular anomaly, mainly asymptomatic, usually undetected, and often associated with other cardiac anomalies. Though usually harmless and totally innocent, this vascular anomaly might complicate cardiovascular surgery, the insertion of a central venous catheter and the transvenous placement of a pacemaker. This SVC anomaly is still not well known, underdiagnosed and its incidence is much higher than described.

Introduction: Atherosclerosis occurring in the digestive arteries is rare and often asymptomatic. When it becomes symptomatic, surgical care is indicated. Conventional procedures are giving way to improved endovascular techniques applied to the mesenteric arteries.

Introduction: The popliteal artery aneurysm (PAA) is a rare vascular disease, but represents the most common site of peripheral aneurysms. We report in this paper our experience in the surgical management of PAA.

Objectives: The aim of this work was to clarify the indications and the results of the surgical management of PAA.

The rupture of aortic arch aneurysm is rare but serious and a life-threatening pathologic condition. We report a case of an 80-year-old woman who was admitted to our department for a rupture of a saccular aortic arch aneurysm in the left pulmonary bronchus. There was no landing zone in the aortic arch.

Introduction: Image intensification exposes the endovascular surgery staff to ionizing radiation. The aim of this study was to determine awareness of ionizing radiation risks among personnel working in the endovascular surgery environment and the availability of radiation protection clothes and to propose appropriate corrective measures.

Methods: This descriptive study was performed in the endovascular operating theatre equipped with a mobile image intensifier unit in La Rabta vascular department in September 2017.

Several surgical approaches for completion of a total cavopulmonary connection have been established for patients with anomalies of systemic venous connection in association with a functionally univentricular heart. We report an alternative technique designed to address the problem of widely separated inferior systemic veins, in which two extracardiac conduits were used. This technique was performed on three patients and yielded excellent short-term results, allowing us to operate on a beating heart with no need for cardioplegic arrest and aortic cross-clamping.

Brachial artery aneurysms are rare, mostly consisting of false ones secondary to infectious, traumatic, or iatrogenic arterial lesions. True aneurysms of the brachial artery are even more uncommon. Here, we report a case of a 40-year-old fisherman, without any pathological antecedent, who presented with a painful pulsatile mass of the left anterior arm.
