Article Synopsis
  • The study investigates the effectiveness of prophylactic drainage after laparoscopic cholecystectomy, as there are mixed opinions regarding its benefits and risks.
  • A total of 232 patients were analyzed, with findings indicating that surgical time was significantly longer in the drainage group compared to the non-drainage group, but no major complications differed notably between the two.
  • The conclusion suggests that prophylactic drainage did not enhance patient outcomes and emphasizes the importance of personalized care in surgical practices.

Article Synopsis
  • A 55-year-old man experienced severe gastrointestinal bleeding due to an ileal gastrointestinal stromal tumor (GIST), which was identified through CTA imaging.
  • The tumor was surgically removed, resulting in stabilized hemoglobin levels, and was confirmed to be a low-grade GIST after pathology analysis.
  • Clinically, GISTs are rare but important to consider in cases of unexplained gastrointestinal hemorrhage; effective imaging techniques like CTA are crucial for proper diagnosis.

Article Synopsis
  • * A 16-year-old boy who couldn't lose weight through dieting underwent bariatric surgery, where a 3.5 cm EP was incidentally found in his jejunum, despite it usually being smaller and more common in older individuals.
  • * Surgical removal of the EP is crucial to avoid potential problems, and this case is notable as it's the first documented instance of such a finding in Syria and the fourth in overall medical literature.

Introduction/aims: Objective outcome measures in children undergoing treatment for chronic inflammatory demyelinating polyradiculoneuropathy (CIDP) are lacking. The aim of the study was to record serial grip strength and motor nerve conduction studies to assess interval change.

Methods: This was a retrospective review of 16 children (8 females and 8 males; median age, 9.

The recent COVID-19 pandemic shows the critical need for novel broad spectrum antiviral agents. Scorpion venoms are known to contain highly bioactive peptides, several of which have demonstrated strong antiviral activity against a range of viruses. We have generated the first annotated reference transcriptome for the Androctonus amoreuxi venom gland and used high performance liquid chromatography, transcriptome mining, circular dichroism and mass spectrometric analysis to purify and characterize twelve previously undescribed venom peptides.

Primary intestinal lymphangiectasia is a rare disease that affects children and young adults, causing mainly gastrointestinal disorders that lead to edema and immunologic abnormalities. The majority of patients typically present bilateral lower limb edema, along with pericarditis, pleural effusion, or chylous ascites. The goal of the treatment is to restrict the consumption of long-chain fats and administer a formula that includes protein and medium-chain triglycerides.

Introduction And Importance: De Garengeot hernia is a rare case of a femoral hernia. It occurs when a femoral hernia contains a vermiform appendix that may be inflamed and sometimes necrotic, and this requires emergency surgery. However, the hernia is usually discovered by chance in the operating theater, which poses an additional challenge for surgeons.

Aromatic prenyltransferases from cyanobactin biosynthetic pathways catalyse the chemoselective and regioselective intramolecular transfer of prenyl/geranyl groups from isoprene donors to an electron-rich position in these macrocyclic and linear peptides. These enzymes often demonstrate relaxed substrate specificity and are considered useful biocatalysts for structural diversification of peptides. Herein, we assess the isoprene donor specificity of the N1-tryptophan prenyltransferase AcyF from the anacyclamide A8P pathway using a library of 22 synthetic alkyl pyrophosphate analogues, of which many display reactive groups that are amenable to additional functionalization.

Introduction: and importance: Acquired small bowel diverticulosis is rare 1% and the ileum is the less frequent occurring site 15%. Most cases were multiple and asymptomatic. This is the first case of perforated terminal ileum diverticula in a 32-year-old woman and successfully managed surgically.

Background: Benign Multicystic Peritoneal Mesothelioma (BMPM) is one of the rarest diseases in medicine with only more than 200 cases worldwide. This paper aims to report a case of Benign Multicystic Peritoneal Mesothelioma that strangely arose from the liver and was long treated as Hydatid cyst. The case also had many risk factors including asbestos exposure that had not yet been linked with Benign Multicystic Peritoneal Mesothelioma.

Background: There are data on the safety of cancer surgery and the efficacy of preventive strategies on the prevention of postoperative symptomatic COVID-19 in these patients. But there is little such data for any elective surgery. The main objectives of this study were to examine the safety of bariatric surgery (BS) during the coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) pandemic and to determine the efficacy of perioperative COVID-19 protective strategies on postoperative symptomatic COVID-19 rates.

Intussusception is the invagination of a segment of the bowel into an adjacent segment. Here, we describe a middle-eastern case of an 11-year-old boy who presented to our institution with an intussusception caused by lymphoma but with nonspecific symptoms such as acute abdominal pain and a history of weight loss. His abdominal ultrasound and computed tomography (CT) showed ileocolic intussusception with a mass leading it.

Intussusception in adulthood is an uncommon medical condition. Multiple lipomas are a very rare cause of intussusception, and the jejunum is the least common location of lipoma. We report an unusual case of a 37-year-old man presented with non-specific symptoms.

Abdominal presentations in patients with spinal-epidural abscess (SEA) are not uncommon. However, it needs to be continually emphasized that the atypical presentations of these diseases could delay the timely diagnosis and consequently prompt management, which threatens spinal cord, leading to potential to paralysis or even death. We report a case of a young girl who presented with abdominal pain and fever.
