Spondyloarthritis Associated with Uveitis: A Review.

Spondyloarthritis (SpA) is a group of chronic inflammatory rheumatism characterized by common clinical, radiological, and biological manifestations occurring on a predisposing genetic background dominated by the HLA-B27 antigen. Acute anterior uveitis is the most common extra-articular feature of SpA. The objective of this review is to describe the prevalence, demographic characteristics, factors favoring the occurrence of uveitis in patients with SpA, clinical manifestations, and their therapeutic management.

Study of Body Composition by Biphotonic X-ray Absorptiometry in a Moroccan Female Population, an Indicator of Obesity?

Introduction: Our purpose was to study the body composition in a healthy female Moroccan adult group, and to help physicians to evaluate nutritional status.

Materials And Methods: Five hundred and nineteen healthy women aged from 20 to 80 years were included in the study. Bone mineral density at the hip and lumbar spine and the body composition parameters were measured by dual-energy X-ray absorptiometry: fat mass (FM), fat-free mass (FFM), and percentage (%) of body fat.

Cachexia Prevalence in a Population of Moroccan Women with Rheumatoid Arthritis.

Objective: To assess body composition in women with rheumatoid arthritis (RA) compared to healthy controls, to calculate the prevalence of rheumatoid Cachexia (RC), and to identify the associated factors.

Methods: We conducted a case-control study on 112 female patients with RA according to the 2010 American College of Rheumatology/European League Against Rheumatism classification criteria for RA; and 224 age-matched healthy women. Body composition (BC) and bone mineral density (BMD) scans were obtained using Dual-energy X-ray absorptiometry (DXA).

Extra-Articular Manifestations in Patients with Ankylosing Spondylitis: Baseline Characteristics from the RBSMR Study.

Objectives: To describe and analyse the prevalence of extra-articular manifestations (EAMs) including acute anterior uveitis (AAU), psoriasis and inflammatory bowel disease (IBD) in patients with ankylosing spondylitis (AS) in the Moroccan registry of biological therapies in rheumatic diseases RBSMR (Registre des Biothérapies de la Société Marocaine de Rhumatologie).

Methods: A cross-sectional, multicentre and analytical study based on the RBSMR database, which included 170 AS. Incidence rates for the development of AAU, psoriasis and IBD were calculated, and risk factors were analysed.

Hodgkin Lymphoma Mimicking Lumbar Spine Tuberculosis.

Introduction: The clinical manifestations of Hodgkin lymphoma (HL) can closely mimic spine and lymph node tuberculosis (TB). . A 48-year-old man was initially treated for retroperitoneal lymph nodes TB, and this diagnosis was made without bacteriological and histopathological confirmation.

African League Against Rheumatism (AFLAR) preliminary recommendations on the management of rheumatic diseases during the COVID-19 pandemic.

Objectives: To develop recommendations for the management of rheumatic and musculoskeletal diseases (RMDs) during the COVID-19 pandemic.

Method: A task force comprising of 25 rheumatologists from the 5 regions of the continent was formed and operated through a hub-and-spoke model with a central working committee (CWC) and 4 subgroups. The subgroups championed separate scopes of the clinical questions and formulated preliminary statements of recommendations which were processed centrally in the CWC.

Relationship between vertebral fracture prevalence and abdominal aortic calcification in women with rheumatoid arthritis.

Objectives: Vertebral fracture assessment (VFA)-detected abdominal aortic calcification (AAC) has been validated as an indicator of increased risk of vertebral fractures (VFs) in other populations but this relationship in rheumatoid arthritis (RA) is unclear. We assess the prevalence of AAC on VFA scans and its potential relationship with prevalent VFs in a cohort of RA women.

Methods: We enrolled 250 women with RA.

Musculoskeletal Disorders in Patients with Diabetes Mellitus: A Cross-Sectional Study.

Effect of different pretreatments on functional properties of African catfish (Clarias gariepinus) skin gelatin.

Pretreatments with different types of alkali and acid were compared to determine their effects on gelatin extraction from African catfish (Clarias gariepinus) skin. The study was divided into three parts. In the first part, the skins were only treated with alkaline (Ca(OH)2 or NaOH) solution or pretreated with acetic acid solution.

ACE inhibitory activity of pangasius catfish (Pangasius sutchi) skin and bone gelatin hydrolysate.

Skin and bone gelatins of pangasius catfish (Pangasius sutchi) were hydrolyzed with alcalase to isolate Angiotensin Converting Enzyme (ACE) inhibitory peptides. Samples with the highest degree of hydrolysis (DH) were separated into different fractions with molecular weight cut-off (MWCO) sizes of 10, 3 and 1 kDa, respectively and assayed for ACE inhibitory activity. Skin and bone gelatins had highest DH of 64.

Kinetic characterization of Channa striatus muscle sarcoplasmic and myofibrillar protein hydrolysates.

This study was conducted to evaluate the kinetic characteristics of proteolytic activity of proteases on Channa striatus protein fractions. Degree of hydrolysis (DH), amino acid composition and kinetic parameters of sarcoplasmic and myofibrillar proteins were investigated when incubated with proteinase K and thermolysin, separately. After 30 min incubation with proteases, a decrease in DH of sarcoplasmic protein was observed whereas, hydrolysis of myofibrillar protein with proteases took 2 h with an increase in DH.
