Nasoalveolar Molding in Lately Presented Moderate to Severe Unilateral Cleft Lip and Palate Infants: Does it Add?

Alignment of the alveolar segments with early nasal cartilage tackling is the foundation upon which excellent surgical results are dependent. The purpose is to evaluate the short-term effect of triple combination of passive alveolar molding with early nasal molding augmented by controlled corrective power of lip tapping in lately presented moderate to severe unilateral complete cleft lip and palate infants. A prospective case series study was conducted in Plastic and Maxillofacial Surgery Department, Ain Shams University in collaboration with Orthodontics Department, from January 2021 till June 2023, 15 infants elder than 2 months till 6 months were enrolled in the study.

Synthesis of -Alkyl-3-[2-oxoquinolin-1(2)-yl]propanoic Acid Derivatives and Related Compounds: Cytotoxicity and EGFR Inhibition of Some Propanamide Derivatives.

A series of 20 new structure-modified quinolin-2-one derivatives were prepared for biological evaluation. This was successfully achieved based on chemoselective reactions of heterocyclic amides with acrylic acid derivatives, which gave 3-[2-oxoquinolin-1-(2)-yl] propanoic acid derivatives (N-substitution via a unique behavior). The ester was reacted with hydrazine to afford the corresponding hydrazide.

Elucidating the Environmental and Health Risks of Trace Element Pollution in Red Sea Fish from Nuweiba City, Aqaba Gulf, Egypt.

Trace element bioaccumulation in marine organisms is a rising international issue due to possible health concerns for humans. Thirteen trace elements were analyzed in the sediment, water, and muscular tissue of Red Sea fish. Additionally, the average daily intake (EDI), the cancer risk (CR), the hazard index (HI), and the target hazard quotient (THQ) of those elements have been taken into consideration when evaluating any possible health concerns related to their consumption.

Jaffe-Campanacci syndrome; a case series and review of the literature.

Background: Jaffe-Campanacci syndrome is a rare syndrome, characterized by multiple non-ossifying fibromas (NOF) and cafe-au-lait patches. The name was coined in 1982 by Mirra after Jaffe who first described the case in 1958. Although it's suggested there is a relation with Neurofibromatosis type 1, there is still no consensus on whether Jaffe-Campanacci syndrome is a subtype or variant of neurofibromatosis-1(NF-1).

Synthesis of a resorcinol-based derivative as a corrosion inhibitor for low-carbon steel in 0.5 mol L HCl medium: chemical, electrochemical, and theoretical aspects.

This work illustrated the synthesis of a new simple resorcinol derivative, 4,6-dimethoxyisophthalohydrazide (DMIH) and confirmed its structure using H-NMR spectroscopy. The inhibiting performance of the DMIH compound in resisting the pitting action of a 0.5 mol L HCl solution on low-carbon steel (LCS) was assessed.

Clinical impact of multidrug-resistant bacterial infections in patients with cirrhosis.

Recently, the emergency of multidrug-resistant organisms (MDRO) has complicated the management of bacterial infections (BI) in cirrhosis. We aimed to assess their clinical impact on patients with decompensated cirrhosis. A retrospective study included consecutive cirrhotic patients hospitalized for acute decompensation (AD) between January 2010 and December 2019.

Chemical synthesis and super capacitance performance of novel CuO@CuO/rGO/PANI nanocomposite electrode.

Copper oxide-based nanocomposites are promising electrode materials for high-performance supercapacitors due to their unique properties that aid electrolyte access and ion diffusion to the electrode surface. Herein, a facile and low-cost synthesis strategy based on co-precipitation and incorporation processes of reduced graphene oxide (rGO), followed by oxidative polymerization of aniline monomer has been reported. CuO@CuO/rGO/PANI nanocomposite revealed the good distribution of CuO@CuO and rGO within the polymer matrix which allows improved electron transport and ion diffusion process.

[The new medical licensing regulations (ÄApprO) : Status and expected challenges].

BackgroundThe amendment to the medical licensing regulations (ÄApprO) was decided at the federal level in the version of the "Master Plan for Medical Studies 2020" passed in 2017. In addition to the organizational effort involved in redesigning the curricular teaching, the expected costs associated with the implementation of the new licensing regulations due to the necessary additional time and, therefore, personnel expenditure are of particular importance. Taking into account the different forms of study and the 20% scope for study-design provided to the individual faculties, the process of transferring the teaching content to the new modules confronts us with an enormous organizational challenge.

Subtotal diaphyseal replacement of the femur with modular mega-endoprosthesis following interprosthetic fracture. A case report.

Mega-endoprostheses enable wide management options in the treatment of primary and periprosthetic fracture of the lower extremities. In this study, we report on the use of custom-made subtotal diaphyseal endoprosthetic replacement in treatment of interprosthetic femoral fracture. This procedure is off-label, but in this particular case, it was the safest and most stress-stable treatment option.

Intramedullary arthrodesis of the knee joint with additional femoral neck screw to prevent periprosthetic fracture of the proximal femur. A case report.

Arthrodesis of the knee joint has proven effective in the treatment of chronic periprosthetic infections as well as in cases of previous multiple revision surgery after total knee replacement with insufficiency of the extensor apparatus. In this case report, we report on the use of a custom-made intramedullary arthrodesis nail of the knee joint following multiple revisions due to aseptic loosening after total knee replacement. Surgery was performed according to preoperative computerized planning.

Early-Outcome Differences between Acute and Chronic Periprosthetic Joint Infections-A Retrospective Single-Center Study.

Periprosthetic joint infections (PJI) are serious complications after arthroplasty, associated with high morbidity, mortality, and complex treatment processes. The outcomes of different PJI entities are largely unknown. The aim of this study was to access the early outcomes of different PJI entities.

Associated factors with liver fibrosis in rheumatoid arthritis patients treated with methotrexate.

Introduction: There are conflicting findings on the link between liver fibrosis and cumulative methotrexate dosages. We aimed to determine the frequency of liver fibrosis in rheumatoid arthritis patients treated with methotrexate and to identify its associated factors.

Methods: We conducted a cross-sectional study over 9 months (April-December 2021), including rheumatoid arthritis patients treated with methotrexate.

EncephalApp Stroop Test for covert hepatic encephalopathy screening in Tunisian cirrhotic patients.

Covert hepatic encephalopathy (CHE) is underdiagnosed and is difficult to detect. The EncephalApp Stroop test is validated for its screening. The aim of the study was to define Tunisian norms for the test based on healthy controls norms and to estimate the prevalence of CHE in cirrhotic Tunisian patients.

Physical exercise as a treatment for persisting symptoms post-COVID infection: review of ongoing studies and prospective randomized controlled training study.

Background And Purpose: No evidence-based treatment is available for patients with persisting symptoms post-COVID-19 infection. We hypothesized that physical exercise may represent a safe and effective treatment option for post-COVID.

Methods: We performed a systematic search of the literature that revealed a lack of randomized training studies in patients post-COVID.

Acoustic radiation forces can remotely manipulate particles. Forces from a standing wave field align microscale particles along the nodal or anti-nodal locations of the field to form three-dimensional (3D) patterns. These patterns can be used to form 3D microstructures for tissue engineering applications.

Medical studies in times of a pandemic - concepts of digital teaching for Orthopaedics and Trauma at german universities.

Background: Due to the Covid-19 pandemic, on-site classroom teaching became limited at most German medical universities. This caused a sudden demand for digital teaching concepts. How the transfer from classroom to digital teaching or digitally assisted teaching was conducted was decided by each university and/or department individually.

Endoscopic removal of a transgastric migrated textiloma: a case report.

Aim: Abdominal textiloma is an uncommon postoperative complication which can result in a fistula with luminal migration in the digestive tract. Surgery has been the mainstay method for textiloma removal; however, removal of retained gauze by upper gastrointestinal endoscopy is possible avoiding reoperation.

Case Report: We report a case of an abdominal textiloma in a 38-year-old male, which migrated into the stomach and was extracted by upper endoscopy.

Photoelectrochemical Performance of Strontium Titanium Oxynitride Photo-Activated with Cobalt Phosphate Nanoparticles for Oxidation of Alkaline Water.

Photoelectrochemical (PEC) solar water splitting is favourable for transforming solar energy into sustainable hydrogen fuel using semiconductor electrodes. Perovskite-type oxynitrides are attractive photocatalysts for this application due to their visible light absorption features and stability. Herein, strontium titanium oxynitride (STON) containing anion vacancies of SrTi(O,N) was prepared via solid phase synthesis and assembled as a photoelectrode by electrophoretic deposition, and their morphological and optical properties and PEC performance for alkaline water oxidation are investigated.

Hydrazine High-Performance Oxidation and Sensing Using a Copper Oxide Nanosheet Electrocatalyst Prepared via a Foam-Surfactant Dual Template.

This work demonstrates hydrazine electro-oxidation and sensing using an ultrathin copper oxide nanosheet (CuO-NS) architecture prepared via a versatile foam-surfactant dual template (FSDT) approach. CuO-NS was synthesised by chemical deposition of the hexagonal surfactant Brij58 liquid crystal template containing dissolved copper ions using hydrogen foam that was concurrently generated by a sodium borohydride reducing agent. The physical characterisations of the CuO-NS showed the formation of a two-dimensional (2D) ultrathin nanosheet architecture of crystalline CuO with a specific surface area of ~39 m/g.

Evaluation of Branched-Chain Amino Acids in Children with Autism Spectrum Disorder and Epilepsy.

Autism spectrum disorder (ASD) and epilepsy run hand-to-hand in their pathophysiology. Epilepsy is not an uncommon finding in patients with ASD. The aim of the present study was to identify the metabolic abnormalities of BCAAs (leucine, isoleucine, and valine) in children with ASD with and without seizures in comparison with neurotypical controls.

Assessment of dengue virus threat to blood safety and community health: A single center study in northern Egypt.

Background: The risk of transfusion transmitted dengue (DENV) is increasingly recognized and poses a risk to blood safety as well as spreading into non-immune communities.

Objectives: To determine dengue serological profile, environmental risk, knowledge, and preventive measures among blood donors in a national blood bank in northern Egypt.

Methods: A total of 500 blood donors were enrolled into this study between June and September 2018.

COVID-19 prophylaxis with doxycycline and zinc in health care workers: a prospective, randomized, double-blind clinical trial.

Objectives: This study aims to assess the efficacy of a combination treatment of doxycycline and zinc in the primary prevention of COVID-19 infection in Tunisian health care workers compared with two control groups.

Methods: We conducted a prospective, randomized, double-blind clinical trial over 5 months to determine the efficacy of a preventive combination treatment dose of doxycycline (100 mg/day) and zinc (15 mg/day), compared with a single-dose treatment with doxycycline versus placebo. The effectiveness of preventive treatment was measured by the significant decline in the number of cases of COVID-19 infection and/or a decrease in the viral load as determined by SARS-CoV-2 cycle threshold value using reverse transcription polymerase chain reaction tests.

Factors associated with dislocation after bipolar hemiarthroplasty through an (antero-)lateral approach in elderly patients with a femoral neck fracture: a retrospective cohort study with a nested case-control subanalysis of radiographic parameters.

Introduction: Dislocations of hip hemiarthroplasty (HHA) are serious complications. The aim of the study was to identify clinical aspects and radiographic parameters of the hip that put patients at risk for dislocation after HHA for femoral neck fractures.

Methods: This retrospective analysis included elderly patients with a femoral neck fracture treated with a HHA.
