High prevalence during early childhood has been associated with stunting and environmental enteric dysfunction (EED), especially in low resource settings. This study assessed the prevalence, diversity, abundance, and co-occurrence of spp. in stools from children in a rural area of eastern Ethiopia and their association with microbiome, diarrhea, and EED in children.

Nano cobalt and porous zinc-cobalt oxide particles were synthesized using the concept of coordination compounds of the type [M(ii)L,L'] (where M(ii) = Co(ii) & Zn(ii) L= 4-hydroxy benzaldehyde and L' = piperazine) and were thoroughly characterized. Because the precursors are coordination compounds possessing specific geometry in the crystal lattice, uniform and appropriately sized homo- and heterometallic nanocrystals of CoO and ZnO·CoO were obtained after a thermal process. The homo and hetero composite particles were characterized by transmission electron microscopy (TEM), scanning electron microscopy (SEM), energy dispersive X-ray analysis (EDX), X-ray diffraction (XRD), FT IR spectroscopy and electrochemistry.

The predictive value of the platelet volume parameters in evaluation of varicocelectomy outcome in infertile patients.

Pulses, defined as legumes which produce dry seed used for human consumption, are plants of great agronomic value, at the food system level as much as the field level but their diversity has been largely underused. This study aimed at analyzing existing data on cultivated pulse species in the literature to provide a broad and structured description of pulses' interspecific functional diversity. We used a functional trait-based approach to evaluate how pulse diversity could support food production in agroecosystems constrained by low water and nutrient availability and exposed to high weed pressure.

Long-term outcome after implantation of a nickel-containing cemented hip stem on the right in a patient with type IV sensitization to nickel sulphate.

Type IV allergies to nickel sulfate, potassium dichromate and/or cobalt chloride are supposed to be associated with aseptic loosening, pain or infections in patients with hip arthroplasty. However, there is debate on any causal relation between type IV sensitization to metals and any of these complications. We report on a patient with suspicion of pre-existing type IV sensitization to nickel sulfate and potassium dichromate who did not show any complications after hip arthroplasty.

Production of a novel α-amylase by Bacillus atrophaeus NRC1 isolated from honey: Purification and characterization.

Different bacterial isolates with amylolytic activity were insulated from various honey samples. The most active isolate was identified by the molecular 16SrRNA sequence technique as Bacillus atrophaeus NRC1. The bacterium showed maximum amylase production under optimum culture conditions at pH 6.

Background: Prevention and control of non-communicable diseases (NCDs) remain inadequate in resource-scarce countries, particularly in conflict situations. This paper describes a multicomponent intervention for management of hypertension and diabetes among older adult Syrian refugees and the Lebanese host community and reflects on challenges for scaling up NCD integration into primary care in humanitarian situations.

Methods: Using a mixed method approach, the study focused on monitoring and evaluation of the three components of the intervention: healthcare physical facilities and documentation processes, provider knowledge and guideline-concordant performance, and refugee and host community awareness.

Purification and characterization of acetylcholinesterase in Rhynchophorus ferrugineus (Olivier) (Coleoptera: Curculionidae).

Red palm weevil (RPW), Rhynchophorus ferrugineus, is one of the most destructive pests of cultivated palm trees. The application of synthetic insecticides is currently a main strategy for RPW control. In this study we estimated the distribution of acetylcholinesterase (AChE), as a detoxifying enzyme and the target site of inhibition by insecticides, using ASChI as substrate in different organs of the pest including whole gut, cuticle, fat body, head and haemolymph.

Mesoporous Tungsten Trioxide Photoanodes Modified with Nitrogen-Doped Carbon Quantum Dots for Enhanced Oxygen Evolution Photo-Reaction.

Nanostructured photoanodes are attractive materials for hydrogen production via water photo-electrolysis process. This study focused on the incorporation of carbon quantum dots doped with nitrogen as a photosensitizer into porous tungsten trioxide photoanodes (N-CQD/-WO) using a surfactant self-assembly template approach. The crystal structure, composition, and morphology of pure and N-CQD- modified porous WO photoanodes were investigated using scanning electron and transmission microscopy, X-ray diffraction, and X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy.

Interstitial lung diseases (ILDs) are a set of heterogeneous lung diseases characterised by inflammation and, in some cases, fibrosis. These lung conditions lead to dyspnoea, cough, abnormalities in gas exchange, restrictive physiology (characterised by decreased lung volumes), hypoxaemia and, if progressive, respiratory failure.
