The quantum valley Hall effect (QVHE) is characterized by the valley Chern number (VCN) in a way that one-dimensional (1D) chiral metallic states are guaranteed to appear at the domain walls (DW) between two domains with opposite VCN for a given valley. Although in the case of QVHE, the total Berry curvature (BC) of the system is zero, the BC distributed locally around each valley makes the VCN well defined as long as intervalley scattering is negligible. Here, we propose a new type of valley-dependent topological phenomenon that occurs when the BC is strictly zero at each momentum.

Background: Early diagnosis and control of risk factors affecting frailty syndrome (FS) in older adults may lead to changes in the health/disease process, prevention of disability and dependency in the older adults, and reduction of health care costs and mortality rates. The aim of this study was to determine the predictive role of CVD risk factors and FS in community-dwelling older adults of Amirkola city in Iran.

Methods: This descriptive-analytic cross-sectional study is part of the second phase of the Amirkola Health and Aging Project (AHAP) cohort study conducted since 2011 on all individuals ≥ 60 years in the city of Amirkola in northern Iran.

Introduction: For older adults, maintaining muscle strength and balance is crucial to preserve an upright posture and independently manage their basic activities of daily living (ADL). This study aimed to examine whether muscle strength and balance mediate the relationship between frailty syndrome (FS) and osteoporosis in a large sample of community-dwelling older adults.

Material And Methods: This cross-sectional study is part of the second phase (2016-2017) of the Amirkola Health and Ageing Project (AHAP), a cohort study conducted on all elderly aged 60 and over in Amirkola, Northern Iran, since 2011.

People's Dietary Patterns (DPs) are influenced by culture and ethnicity, and their identification requires a holistic assessment of diet. DP reflects dietary behaviors, and its analysis may provide further details about the dietary etiology of chronic diseases. By examining people's DP and related factors, more practical solutions can be proposed to prevent overweight, obesity, and related diseases.

Article Synopsis
  • The study aimed to translate and validate the Persian versions of the food involvement inventory (FII) and eating restriction questionnaire (ERQ) among 1100 Iranian adults, while also assessing measurement invariance across different demographics.
  • Using exploratory and confirmatory factor analysis, the researchers confirmed that the FII had a four-factor construct, explaining 44.27% of the variance, and the ERQ had a one-factor construct, explaining 55.12% of the variance.
  • Both scales demonstrated high construct, convergent, and discriminant validity, as well as strong reliability, making them suitable for use in assessing food involvement and eating restrictions in Iranian adults.

An important target in the treatment of type 2 diabetes is α-glucosidase. Inhibition of this enzyme led to delay in glucose absorption and decrease in postprandial hyperglycemia. A new series of phthalimide-phenoxy-1,2,3-triazole-N-phenyl (or benzyl) acetamides 11a-n were designed based on the reported potent α-glucosidase inhibitors.
