Expounding structures of roller compacted concrete dam specimens by means of hard conventional X-ray inspection.

A simple solution to improve the contrast between the different concrete composites in X-ray imaging (radiography and tomography) of a highly compressed composite sample of real size roller compacted concrete (RCC) specimens is presented. This is made by applying a 9.5 mm thick Copper (Cu) filter at the output window of the X ray tube in a conventional X-ray inspection equipment.

Congenital methaemoglobinaemia in a 61-year-old patient with normal haemoglobin levels.

A 61-year-old Ghanaian woman presented with dizziness and low oxygen saturations whereupon a methaemoglobin level of 24.9% was obtained. Initially it was thought to be caused by an unknown toxin.

Multi-dose drug dispensing as a tool to improve medication adherence: A study in patients using vitamin K antagonists.

Purpose: Multi-dose drug dispensing (MDD) is a dosing aid that provides patients with disposable bags containing all drugs intended for 1 dosing moment. MDD is believed to increase medication adherence, but studies are based on self-reported data, and results may depend on socially desirable answers. Therefore, our purpose was to determine the effect of MDD on medication adherence in non-adherent patients taking vitamin K antagonists (VKAs), and to compare with instructing patients on medication use.

Three-dimensional stylization of structures of interest from computed tomography images applied to radiotherapy planning.

Purpose: Techniques to detect structures of interest and model them as simple geometric shapes to enhance their visualization are presented.

Methods And Materials: Three-dimensional visualization techniques can be used to enhance the detection of critical structures by enclosing them in a readily perceived bounding volume. This article describes stylization techniques that define three-dimensional shapes that conform to the real shape of the structures in the case of the spinal cord and the eyeballs.

Research training for general practitioners: an experiment in The Netherlands.

One of the great problems in the field of primary health care research is the lack of qualified general practice researchers. The same is true for General Practitioners working in the University Departments of General Practice. Therefore the Department of General Practice at the University of Limburg in Maastricht in the Netherlands, developed a one-year research training programme for young General Practitioners.
