[Telemedicine consultations in Iceland].

Objective: A Telemedicine project was initiated to evaluate the usefulness of medical teleconsultations in Iceland and to gain experience for further planning of Telemedicine in the country.

Material And Methods: The consultations were based on videoconference and store and forward method. Electronic stethoscope, spirometry, otoendoscope and digital pictures were used along with conventional videoconsultations.

[Prehospital cardiac life support in the Reykjavík area 1999-2002].

Objectives: A physician manned ambulance has provided advanced resuscitation service in the Reykjavík area for over 20 years. Out of hospital resuscitation since 1982 has been done with average response time of 4.6-4.

[Cardiac arrest over the Atlantic.].

The following case report is of the cardiac arrest of a 63 year old male on board a transatlantic passenger aircraft. Medical doctors on board the aircraft used an automated external defibrillator (AED) which restored the patient circulation. On arrival at the hospital in Iceland two hours later he was unconscious and had EKG signs of an antero-septal myocardial infarction.

[Risk factors and prevalence of erectile dysfunction amongst Icelandic men aged 45-75].

Objective: Many population studies worldwide have shown high prevalence of erect ile dysfunction, a condition that increases dramatically with age. Other risk factors are also well known such as diabetes and arteriosclerosis. The aim was to study the prevalence and risk factors of erectile dysfunction among Icelandic men.
