Adding checkpoint inhibitors to first-line chemotherapy for NUT carcinoma patients.

Rare cancers present significant challenges in diagnosis, treatment, and research, accounting for up to 25% of global cancer cases. Due to their rarity and atypical presentations, they are often misdiagnosed, resulting in late-stage detection and poor outcomes. Here, we describe a patient case with advanced metastatic nasopharynx NUT carcinoma, one of the rarest and most aggressive cancers.

Ifosfamide, Carboplatin, and Etoposide (ICE) in Combination with Regional Hyperthermia as Salvage Therapy in Patients with Locally Advanced Nonmetastatic and Metastatic Soft-Tissue Sarcoma.

Patients with localized relapse of soft-tissue sarcoma (STS) after anthracycline-based chemotherapy have a dismal prognosis, particularly when surgery is not possible. To facilitate resection and improve long-term tumor control, we applied an intensified perioperative treatment consisting of ICE (ifosfamide 6 g/m, carboplatin 400 mg/m, and etoposide 600 mg/m) in combination with regional hyperthermia (RHT) to maximize local control. Here, we retrospectively evaluate the safety and efficacy of this strategy.

Advances in cancer immunotherapy 2019 - latest trends.

Immunotherapy has become an established pillar of cancer treatment improving the prognosis of many patients with a broad variety of hematological and solid malignancies. The two main drivers behind this success are checkpoint inhibitors (CPIs) and chimeric antigen receptor (CAR) T cells. This review summarizes seminal findings from clinical and translational studies recently presented or published at important meetings or in top-tier journals, respectively.

Loss of p16(INK4a) is associated with reduced patient survival in soft tissue tumours, and indicates a senescence barrier.

Aims: p16(INK4a) is an important factor in carcinogenesis, and its expression is linked to oncogene-induced senescence. Very recently it was shown that upregulation and downregulation of p16 indicates a senescence barrier in the serrated route of colorectal cancer. However, in soft tissue sarcoma (STS), the senescence mechanism is still not understood.
