Objectives: Personality traits and affective disorders are both related to functional limitations. It is unknown whether personality traits have an additional effect on functioning in older adults with affective disorders. We studied the association between personality traits and functioning within this group.

We have previously demonstrated that MX2 is also associated with the tumorigenesis process in melanoma. However, it remains unknown which molecular mechanisms are regulated by MX2 in response to interferon signaling in this disease.

VEGF is often incorporated in synthetic scaffolds to promote vascularization and to enhance the survival of cells that have been seeded in these devices. Such applications require sustained local delivery of VEGF of around 4 weeks for stable blood vessel formation.

Validated analytical methods that allow the accurate and precise quantification of DES and IDS in human urine are mandatory in order to properly evaluate the outcome of such clinical studies. In this work, we present the development and full validation of two methods that allow DES and IDS measurement in human urine, one for the free and one for the total (free+peptide-bound) forms.

They are based on solid-phase extraction of the analyte from the matrix by covalent complexation with phenylboronic acid, followed by derivatization with ethylchloroformate. The derivative is quantified by reversed-phase liquid chromatography on a C18 column and positive electrospray ionization MS/MS.

The quantitative determination of cytarabine in plasma is challenging due to the required sensitivity, its in vitro instability and the presence of an isobaric endogenous compound, cytidine. Owing to the polarity of cytarabine, conventional chromatography cannot provide adequate separation of the analyte and the interfering compounds.

The modification of the lysine moieties of proteins to Nepsilon-carboxymethyllysine (CML) is supposed to play a major role in the development of long-term complications in patients with diabetes mellitus. This paper presents an analytical method for the quantitative determination of CML in plasma proteins, which could be used for studying the development of diabetic complications. The method is based on isolating proteins from plasma by precipitation with trichloroacetic acid and hydrolysing these under acidic conditions (6M hydrochloric acid at 110 degrees C for 20 h) to the individual amino acids.

Preparation of saliva and plasma samples was performed by extraction of analytes with a chloroform:2-propanol mixture (6:1, vol/vol) and evaporation of the organic phase to dryness under vacuum at a temperature of approximately 45 degrees C. The chromatographic analysis was carried out by reversed-phase isocratic elution of the anthracyclines with a Chromsep stainless steel HPLC column (150 x 4.
