The use of avian animal models has contributed to the understanding of many aspects of the ontogeny of the hematopoietic system in vertebrates. However, specific events that occur in the model itself are still unclear. There is a lack of consensus, among previous studies, about which is the intermediate site responsible for expansion and differentiation of hematopoietic cells, and the liver's contribution to the development of this system.

This experimental study aimed to evaluate colon healing after portal ischemia followed by reperfusion. Seventy male Wistar rats randomly distributed in four groups were used: Group 1, colonic anastomosis (n = 20); Group 2, portal ischemia-reperfusion (n = 20); Group 3, colonic anastomosis and portal ischemia-reperfusion (n = 20); and Group 4, control (n = 10). In the postoperative period, these rats were re-allocated into subgroups and lipid peroxidation and protein oxidation plasma levels were evaluated on days 1 and 5 by thiobarbituric acid reactive substances (TBARS) and slot-blotting assays, respectively.

Marginal keratoderma of the palms (MKP), also known as degenerative collagenous plaques of the hands, is an infrequent disease affecting individuals with photoaged skin and submitted to mechanical trauma of the hands. The aim of the study was to study the expression of keratin 14 (K14) in the basal layer and keratins 10 (K10) and 16 (K16) in the suprabasal layer, and to establish the effect of growth factors and receptors of the epidermal growth factor in the genesis of hyperkeratosis observed in MKP. The study included 14 patients with MKP.
