Chronic hypertension is an increasingly prevalent condition that constitutes a risk factor for superimposed preeclampsia during pregnancy. In this study, we assessed the gut microbiome in a rat model of superimposed preeclampsia to characterize the microbial signature associated with defective placentation processes identified at the preclinical disease stage. The blood pressure profile, renal function parameters and fetal phenotype were evaluated in pregnant Stroke-prone Spontaneously Hypertensive Rats (SHRSP) and their normotensive controls.

Background: This study describes the management of patients on oral anticoagulation (OAC) undergoing endoscopic endonasal transsphenoidal surgery (EETS) and analyzes the risk of postoperative hematoma and epistaxis following treatment of pituitary adenoma (PA).

Methods: Patients with OAC prior to EETS for PA were analyzed in a single center retrospective case series of consecutive patients with PA, who were treated between December 2008 and July 2022. Patient data (age, sex, clinical, endocrinology, tumor histology) were entered into a SPSS database.

Prescription of antibiotics for urinary tract infections in outpatient care in Bavaria: An analysis of routine data.

Background: Patients with urinary tract infection (UTI) in German outpatient care are usually treated by general practitioners (GPs), as well as by other specialties. To prevent antibiotic resistances and side effects, German guidelines recommend fosfomycin, nitrofurantoin, pivmecillinam and nitroxoline as first-line treatments, and advice against broad-spectrum antibiotics such as fluoroquinolones and cephalosporins. However, data from the European Centre for Disease Prevention and Control indicates a significant proportion of second-line antibiotics in German outpatient care.

Background: Although the number of places at medical schools and physicians in Germany has increased continuously over the past 25 years, there is a threat of a shortage of physicians. Based on data from the Bavarian Medical Association (BLÄK) and the Association of Statutory Health Insurance Physicians of Bavaria (KVB), an analysis of the number of physicians in Bavaria over a longer period of time was carried out in order to understand current developments and possible starting points for the future organization of medical care. The figures were analyzed with regard to the distribution of physicians by outpatient and inpatient sector as well as with regard to the development of the number of employees, the scope of employment and the gender distribution in the outpatient sector.

Dietary advice is an important immediate means to address potential exposure and help minimize adverse health effects. In this single-center retrospective study, all consecutive patients with IM were analyzed from January 2007 to August 2019. Patient´s demographics (age, sex), imaging parameters (location, volume, edema, necrosis), and tumor features (WHO grade, histology) were assessed and correlated with KI-67-PI.

Study participants were 619,560 patients with confirmed COVID-19, 42,969 with other respiratory tract infection (ORI), and 438,023 controls.

Algal-bacterial interactions are ubiquitous in both natural and industrial systems, and the characterization of these interactions has been reinvigorated by potential applications in biosystem productivity. Different growth conditions can be used for operational functions, such as the use of low-quality water or high pH/alkalinity, and the altered operating conditions likely constrain microbial community structure and function in unique ways. Surgery of the skull base includes interventions between the nose or paranasal sinuses (anterior skull base) or ear/temporal bone (lateral skull base) and the intracranial space. As interventions at the anterior skull base almost exclusively involve complex pathologies in a demanding anatomical region, in many cases two experienced surgeons from different disciplines are required who should be experienced in operating together. The technical and time requirements are also considerable in many cases; however, for many procedures there are no specific skull base operational and procedural keys (OPS) codes that take the considerable personnel and structural effort into account.
