The amount of substance adsorbed on solid surface depends on temperature. Therefore, the migration velocities of the solutes in a chromatographic column can be altered by introducing temperature gradients. Such gradients designed to change retention behaviours can be exploited to improve the separation performances in preparative chromatography.

Purpose: The issue of perfusion imaging using a temporal decomposition model is to enable the reconstruction of undersampled measurements acquired with a slowly rotating x-ray-based imaging system, for example, a C-arm-based cone beam computed tomography (CB-CT). The aim of this work is to integrate prior knowledge into the dynamic CT task in order to reduce the required number of views and the computational effort as well as to save dose. The prior knowledge comprises of a mathematical model and clinical perfusion data.

The existence of weak solutions to the continuous coagulation equation with multiple fragmentation is shown for a class of unbounded coagulation and fragmentation kernels, the fragmentation kernel having possibly a singularity at the origin. This result extends previous ones where either boundedness of the coagulation kernel or no singularity at the origin for the fragmentation kernel was assumed.

This article proposes a discontinuous Galerkin method for solving model equations describing isothermal non-reactive and reactive chromatography. The models contain a system of convection-diffusion-reaction partial differential equations with dominated convective terms. The suggested method has capability to capture sharp discontinuities and narrow peaks of the elution profiles.
