Lamins A and C are components of the lamina at the nuclear periphery and associate with heterochromatin. A distinct, relatively mobile pool of lamin A/C in the nuclear interior associates with euchromatic regions and with lamin-associated polypeptide 2α (LAP2α). Here we show that phosphorylation-dependent impairment of lamin assembly had no effect on its chromatin association, while LAP2α depletion was sufficient to increase chromatin association of lamins.

Microbial carbon use efficiency (CUE) affects the fate and storage of carbon in terrestrial ecosystems, but its global importance remains uncertain. Accurately modeling and predicting CUE on a global scale is challenging due to inconsistencies in measurement techniques and the complex interactions of climatic, edaphic, and biological factors across scales. The link between microbial CUE and soil organic carbon relies on the stabilization of microbial necromass within soil aggregates or its association with minerals, necessitating an integration of microbial and stabilization processes in modeling approaches.

It has recently been proposed that the study of microbial dynamics in humans may gain insights from island biogeographical theory. Here, we test whether the diversity of the intratumoral microbiota of colorectal cancer tumors (CRC) follows a power law with tumor size akin to the island species-area relationship. We confirm a direct correlation between the quantity of Amplicon Sequence Variants (ASVs) within CRC tumors and tumor sizes, following a (log)power model, explaining 47% of the variation.

The Full Spectrum Imaging System (FSIS-II) was assessed for the detection of latent fingermarks on a variety of substrates, specifically focusing on UV-C imaging for untreated marks and those that have been treated with cyanoacrylate (CA). The use of UV-C was effective at the detection of latent fingermarks on a variety of substrates and UV-C imaging may be effective when UV-A does not provide any fingermark detections on thermal paper. We sympathetically cool highly charged ions (HCI) in Coulomb crystals of Doppler-cooled Be+ ions confined in a cryogenic linear Paul trap that is integrated into a fully enclosing radio-frequency resonator manufactured from superconducting niobium. By preparing a single Be+ cooling ion and a single HCI, quantum logic spectroscopy toward frequency metrology and qubit operations with a great variety of species are enabled. While cooling down the assembly through its transition temperature into the superconducting state, an applied quantization magnetic field becomes persistent, and the trap becomes shielded from subsequent external electromagnetic fluctuations.

Experimental binding free energies of 27 adamantyl amines against the influenza M2(22-46) WT tetramer, in its closed form at pH 8, were measured by ITC in DPC micelles. We compared the anti-influenza potencies of 57 adamantyl amines and analogs against influenza A virus with serine-31 M2 proton channel, usually termed as WT M2 channel, which is amantadine sensitive. We also tested a subset of these compounds against viruses with the amantadine-resistant L26F, V27A, A30T, G34E M2 mutant channels. Four compounds inhibited WT M2 virus in vitro with mid-nanomolar potency, with 27 compounds showing sub-micromolar to low micromolar potency.

Lead halide perovskite nanocrystals (NCs) are highly suitable active media for solution-processed lasers in the visible spectrum, owing to the wide tunability of their emission from blue to red via facile ion-exchange reactions. Their outstanding optical gain properties and the suppressed nonradiative recombination losses stem from their defect-tolerant nature. In this work, we demonstrate flexible waveguides combining the transparent, bioplastic, polymer cellulose acetate with green CsPbBr or red-emitting CsPb(Br,I) NCs in simple solution-processed architectures based on polymer-NC multilayers deposited on polymer micro-slabs.
