Thirteen new 4,7-disubstituted pyrimido[4,5-]pyrimidines were synthesized via a straightforward methodology starting from thiourea. The anti-proliferative activity of these compounds was evaluated across a diverse panel of eight cancer cell lines, with derivatives and showing efficacy against several hematological cancer types. Furthermore, all compounds were assessed for their antiviral potency against a panel of viruses.

Follicular flushing for COC retrieval is practicsed widely in humans but not in cattle. Aims To determine the benefits of follicular flushing in cattle and assess the merits of a novel 16G double-lumen needle ('OxIVF') that flushes laterally to the needle shaft.

The results revealed that these analogs exhibited significantly higher inhibitory activity compared with HT, which served as the positive control. Among these, the cyclo-substituted compounds stood out as particularly potent, demonstrating strong radical scavenging abilities and notable cytostatic effects against MG-63 cells.

This study aimed to investigate and present real-world treatment outcomes in patients with PCBCLs.
Methods: All patients with PCBCL who were treated in five major referral centers for cutaneous lymphoma in Greece over 10 years were retrospectively included with their baseline characteristics and treatment-associated outcomes collected and analyzed.
Background: 18F-prostate specific membrane antigen (PSMA) PET is fast becoming the gold-standard in prostate cancer, both in staging of intermediate-/high-risk patients and in re-staging patients with biochemical failure. Several pitfalls of 18F-PSMA PET have been reported, and we report, to our best of knowledge, for the first time, a case which could have been falsely diagnosed as peritoneal spread.
Case Presentation: A 67-year-old patient with high-risk prostate cancer underwent staging with 18F-PSMA-1007 PET/CT (PSMA-PET/CT).
DNA nanostructures designed to interact with bilayer membranes are of fundamental interest as they mimic biological cytoskeletons and other membrane-associated proteins for applications in synthetic biology, biosensing, and biological research. Yet, there is limited insight into how the binary interactions are influenced by steric effects produced by 3D geometries of DNA structures and membranes. This work uses a 3D DNA nanostructure with membrane anchors in four different steric environments to elucidate the interaction with membrane vesicles of varying sizes and different local bilayer morphology.

Intrathecal injection is a clinically translatable technique that has already been extensively applied in humans. In mice, intrathecal injection is considered a challenging procedure that requires a trained and experienced researcher.

The aim of this study was to research abuse against Critical Care Nurses in five European countries, and its association with and impact on Healthy Work Environments.
Methods: This was a multinational cross-sectional study.
Inguinal hernia repair is performed more than 20 million times per annum, representing a significant health and economic burden. Over the last three decades, significant technical advances have started to reduce the invasiveness of these surgeries, which translated to better recovery and reduced costs. Here we bring forward an innovative surgical technique using a biodegradable cyanoacrylate glue instead of a traumatic suture to close the peritoneum, which is a highly innervated tissue layer, at the end of endoscopy hernia surgery.

The projected increase in global dementia rates is expected to affect LMICs disproportionately. However, the majority of global dementia care costs occur in high-income countries (HICs), with dementia research predominantly focusing on HICs.

Corinthian currants and their components have been shown to display antioxidant and other neuroprotective effects in AD. We evaluated the effect of a Corinthian currant paste-supplemented diet (CurD), provided to 1-month-old 5xFAD mice for 1, 3, and 6 months, on PON1 activity and levels of oxidation markers in serum and the brain of mice as compared to a control diet (ConD) or glucose/fructose-matched diet (GFD).

In the arthritis prevention in the pre-clinical phase of rheumatoid arthritis with abatacept (APIPPRA) trial, we aimed to evaluate the feasibility, efficacy, and acceptability of treating high risk individuals with the T-cell co-stimulation modulator abatacept.
Methods: The APIPPRA study was a randomised, double-blind, multicentre, parallel, placebo-controlled, phase 2b clinical trial done in 28 hospital-based early arthritis clinics in the UK and three in the Netherlands.
MicroRNAs (miRNAs/miRs) are promising prognostic biomarkers in pediatric acute lymphoblastic leukemia (ALL). The present study aimed to identify miRNAs that could serve as prognostic biomarkers or as novel therapeutic targets in ALL. The expression levels of 84 miRNAs were assessed in the bone marrow aspirates of 10 pediatric patients with newly diagnosed ALL at diagnosis and on day 33 of induction of the ALL Intercontinental Berlin-Frankfurt-Münster 2009 protocol, and associations with established prognostic factors were evaluated.

Background: Despite the evidence supporting the association between HWEs and job satisfaction, nursing retention, and patient outcomes, nurses still have high rates of burnout, mental health problems and intent to leave. To address this challenge, a blended training was created and piloted with the aim to highlight the relevance and impact of HWEs, enhancing its transferability to daily practice.
We investigate the notion that basic visual information is acting as a building block for more complex cognitive processes in humans. Specifically, we measured individual visual orientation discrimination thresholds to report significant correlations against the total standardised intelligence quotient (IQ), verbal-IQ and non-verbal IQ scores evaluated using the Wechsler Abbreviated Scale of Intelligence Second Edition (WASI-II) test battery comprising Verbal Reasoning, Block Design, Similarities and Matrix Reasoning subtests (N = 92). A multiple linear regression analysis showed that participants' performance in our visual discrimination task, could be explained only by individual scores in Verbal Reasoning which quantifies the ability to comprehend and describe words and Matrix Reasoning, which evaluates general visual processing skills including abstract and spatial perception.
View Article and Find Full Text PDFOocyte retrieval forms a crucial part of in vitro fertilisation treatment and its ultimate outcome. Standard double-lumen needles, which include a sequence of aspiration and flushing steps, are characterised by a similar success rate to single-lumen needles, despite their increased cost. A novel hydrodynamics-based needle called the OxIVF needle is proposed here, which is geared towards the generation of an internal flow field within the full follicular volume via laterally, rather than frontally, oriented flushing, leading to successful retrievals with no additional stress on the oocyte.
