Background: Extramedullary multiple myeloma (MM) (EMM) is a rare and aggressive subentity of MM that can be present at diagnosis or develop anytime during the disease course. There is a paucity of data on the clinical characteristics and overall epidemiology of EMM. Furthermore, there is a scarcity of data on how the interaction of age and gender influences the survival of EMM.

Fifteen amides of cinnamic, ferulic and sinapic acids with natural and unnatural C-protected amino acids have been synthesized. The amides (E)-N-(feruloyl)-L-tyrosine methyl ester (10), (E)-N-(feruloyl)-L-phenylalanine t-butyl ester (11), (E)-N-(sinapoyl)-L-tyrosine methyl ester (13) and (E)-N-(sinapoyl)-L-phenylalanine t-butyl ester (15) with a free carboxyl group of amino acids have been found in nature. The rest of the compounds are unknown.

34 patients with chronic ulcerohemorrhagic colitis in exacerbation were treated with hyperbaric oxygenation in addition to the routine therapy. Two chambers model "Dräger" 1000 and 1200 were used. The total course of treatment included 10-12 seances with 60-75 min.

Studied was the effect of the capacity of a meat producing enterprise on the hygiene in the production of beef. It was found that beef produced at the small regional slaughterhouses remained 1.29 to 3.

Investigations were carried out on the basic and mineral composition of the liver of slaughtered birds. It was found that the water content of the liver depended on the age and sex, with broilers it being 73.09 g%, with laying hens--72.

Studied were a total of 187 broilers after the completion of their slaughter processing, with special reference to the correlation between the weight and the quality of the slaughtered birds and their bacterial contamination. It was found that with the increase in the weight of the slaughtered and processed broilers the total bacterial count with them progressively dropped. The quality of the slaughtered broilers was found to correlate with their bacterial contamination.

The authors realized synchronous records of impedance--cardiogram with PCG, ECG and the curves of the pressure within the separate cardio-vascular segments. That enables them to make a phase characteristic of the separate parts of impedance-cardiographic curve, thus establishing that the latter is synchronized with the mechanics of the left ventricle.

The authors determined the minute heart volume, according to Fick method with right cardiac catheterization of 20 healthy youths. With the comparison of the results obtained, the differences were within the limits of +/- 10, and in almost half of the examined-- +/- 5%. The relatively small discrepancies in the values obtained, suggest that the impedence-method proves to be a reliable method for bloodless determination of minute heart volume.

Experiments were carried out with regard to certain changes in the liver of geese during their fattening period. The observations were made before the fattening of the geese, namely on the 5th , 10th, 15th, 20th, 25th and 33rd days of the fattening. It was established that during the fattening period the weight of the liver was constantly increasing, especially between the 20th and 25th days.

In using the method of dye dilution improved by reflectometry by means of fibrooptic catheters the authors measured the volumes of the right ventricle in patients with hemodynamics close to normal, in patients with a tension load of the right ventricle, with a volumetric load, in decompensation and in pericarditis. The authors noted a constancy of the relative stroke volume in compensated work of the right ventricle (approximately 53%). They regard this index to be the criterion of normal pump function of the right ventricle.

Studies on the changes occurring in the microflora at the time of 45-day ripening and 4-month storage of cheese produced in pitchers (earthen jugs) were performed. It was established that at the beginning of the ripening period the total number of microorganisms as well as the number of lactic acid producing microorganisms increases, but after the 15th day of ripening until the end of storage their number diminishes. At the time of ripening and storage of cheese curdled in pitchers, coliform bacteria diminish progressively.

Thirty patients with mitral stenosis were examined according to the Bakulev-Damir classification during right heart catheterization at rest, with loading and during the rehabilitation period. The relationships found between the extent of the resistance at rest and the character of the degree of its changes at loading, reflecting the stenosis evolution, provide grounds for the differentiation of four stages, four substages resp., in its classification, namely: Second A substage with sinus rhythm, without included protective reaction of a.

Studied was the effect of shock freezing at -34 degrees C and the storing of slaughtered birds at -18 degrees C up to six months on the survival and the change in the virulence of Salmonella typhimurium, S. meleagridis, and S. gallinarum-pullorum.

The contamination of birds with pathogenic staphylococci was followed up during their slaughter handling and trimming at two poultry-dressing houses. It was found that water cooling and evisceration were mostly contributing to contamination. Taking part in the dissemination of Staphylococcus infection were also the female workers on the slaughter belt, especially those that had wounds on their hands.

The authors describe an experimental model for examining the changes occuring in the haemodynamics of the small circuit as a result of created artificial defect of the interatrial septum. An original operative technique is used, by which the complete clamping of the right lung artery and vera is avoided and lung complications are prevented. The performed control haemodynamic studies up to one vear after the operation support the efficiency of the proposed model.

After a brief discussion on the basis of the dilution method for determination of telediastolic volume (TDV) of the ventricles, the authors described the results from their own experimental studies on 8 nonbred dogs, on whom 186 curves of indicator "washing" (of the dye "Cardiogreen" were recorded, presented on 2 tables. The results showed that the measurements should be made by means of the later steps of the curves. TDV and accordingly the relative stroke volume of both ventricles differed slightly.

Analysing the Ecg and VCG of 818 subjects, healthy or with different congenital and acquired cardiopaties, the frequency of right bundle branch block (RBBB) is established to decrease with the increase in age of children, and is observed to be 8.9% in healthy adults. The right bundle block is observed in 82.

Studied were 382 coagulase-positive and 290 coagullase-negative Staphylococcus strains isolated from birds during their post-slaughter handling, from the vats for water cooling as well as from the women working on the slaughter-house conveyor. Studied were the phage behaviour, fibrinolysine production, the crystal-violet test and the type of hemolysines. It was established that the coagulase positive staphylococci were lysed slightly by the human and the bovine set of phages.

The authors performed a model loading of the right heart ventricle in 40 dogs in 17 dogs--acute tension loading by creating a partial ligature (banding) of the pulmonary artery; the dogs were examined in respect to the changes hemodynamics and ECG for a period of three hours. In the second group of 10 dogs a chronic tension loading of the right heart was created by a partial ligation of the pulmonary artery (banding); the dogs were followed--up in respect to hemodynamic and vectocardiographic changes for a period of one year. In the other group of 10 dogs a chronic loading of the right heart: was formed by operative route and interatrial defect was obtained; the dogs were followed-up in respect to hemodynamics and vectrocardiographic changes for a period of one year.

Studied was the effect of some factors on the retention of water in the slaughtered birds during their technologic processing in all poultry-dressing combines of this country. It was found that the carcass size plays an important role: the greater the weight the lower the percent of the absorbed water. On the other hand, prolonged water cooling was found to correlate positiely with the amount of retained water, while the time of dripping does not lead to essential change of this value.
