Normal wound healing is accomplished through a series of well-coordinated, progressive events with overlapping phases. Chronic wounds are described as not progressing to healing or not being responsive to management in a timely manner. A consensus panel of multidisciplinary wound care professionals was assembled to (1) educate wound care practitioners by identifying key principles of the basic science of chronic wound pathophysiology, highlighting the impact of metalloproteinases and biofilms, as well as the role of the extracellular matrix; and (2) equip practitioners with a systematic strategy for the prevention and healing of acute injuries and chronic wounds based upon scientific evidence and the panel members' expertise.

Background: Obese patients experience dramatic physical and metabolic changes in the skin and its collagen. Bariatric surgery is known to result in significant improvement in obesity-associated comorbid conditions and metabolic disturbances. The aim of this study was to evaluate skin quality following weight loss surgery and its suitability to produce an extracellular matrix for use in reconstructive procedures.

The complex trans-bis(hinokitiolato)copper(II) [systematic name: trans-bis(3-isopropyl-7-oxocyclohepta-1,3,5-trienolato)copper(II); abbreviated name: trans-Cu(hino)2], [Cu(C10H11O2)2], is a biologically active compound. Three polymorphs of this square-planar monomer, all with (+sp,-sp) isopropyl substituents, have been reported previously. A fourth polymorph containing (+ac,-ac) isopropyl groups and its chloroform disolvate, [Cu(C10H11O2)2].

The title complex [systematic name: trans-bis(3-isopropyl-7-oxocyclohepta-1,3,5-trienolato)copper(II)], [Cu(C10H11O2)2], is a substance possessing antimicrobial activity. The compound crystallizes in a number of polymorphic forms, the structures for two of which are reported here. Stacks of square-planar molecules exhibiting weak intermolecular copper-olefin pi interactions (not observed in earlier reports on this substance) are described.
