Benign Multicystic Peritoneal Mesothelioma (BMPM) is an exceedingly rare benign abdominal neoplasm with fewer than 200 cases reported worldwide. Owing to its rarity, vague clinical picture, and elusive causes, diagnosis is often delayed or missed. Histopathological examination and immunohistochemical staining are crucial for definitive diagnosis.

The chemoprevention of colorectal cancer (CRC) is a realistic option given the low acceptance and cost of screening colonoscopy. NSAIDs, currently not recommended for CRC prevention, are the most promising agents. Here, we review relevant work and assess the chemopreventive potential of NSAIDs.

Colorectal cancer (CRC) is a serious yet preventable disease. The low acceptance and cost of colonoscopy as a screening method or CRC make chemoprevention an important option. Nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (NSAIDs), not currently recommended for CRC prevention, have the potential to evolve into the agents of choice for this indication.

To evaluate the chemopreventive effect of nitric oxide-donating aspirin (NO-ASA), an ASA bearing a NO-releasing moiety, against pancreatic cancer, we studied six groups of female Syrian golden hamsters: groups 1 to 3 (n = 12 each) were given saline and groups 4 to 6 (n = 17) the carcinogen N-nitrosobis(2-oxopropyl)amine (BOP) s.c. in five weekly injections (the first, 70 mg/kg, and the remaining, 20 mg/kg each).

Nitric oxide-releasing aspirin (NO-ASA) is emerging as a potentially important chemopreventive agent against colon cancer. We examined in HT-29 human colon adenocarcinoma cells the effect of NO-ASA on the inducible form of nitric oxide synthase (NOS2), an enzyme implicated in colon carcinogenesis. NO-ASA inhibited in a time- and concentration-dependent manner the expression of NOS2 up to 70% compared to control (IC50 for this effect = 46 microM).

Encouraging results from our previous studies of sentinel lymph node (SLN) mapping in colorectal cancer (CRC) prompted investigation of its feasibility and accuracy during laparoscopic colectomy for early CRC. Between 1996 and 2000, 14 patients with clinically localized colorectal neoplasms underwent colonoscopic tattooing of the primary site and SLN mapping. In each case 0.

Background: This study evaluated our 7-year experience treating unresectable colorectal cancer (CRC) hepatic metastases refractory to systemic 5-fluorouracil.

Methods: A total of 185 patients with unresectable 5-fluorouracil-resistant CRC hepatic metastases underwent surgical cytoreduction. Postoperatively patients received either hepatic arterial floxuridine (FUDR) and systemic irinotecan as part of a phase II trial or no further treatment.
