Five species are known on the Brazilian coast: Acarnus innominatus Gray 1867, Acarnus radovani (Boury-Esnault, 1973), Acarnus toxeata Boury-Esnault, 1973, Acarnus nicoleae van Soest, Hooper & Hiemstra, 1991 and Acarnus microxeatus Nascimento & Pinheiro, 2023. This study describes two new Brazilian species, Acarnus hooperi sp.

The present study aims to analyze histomorphometrically the repair of a non-critical bone defect after implantation of hydroxyapatite (HA) microspheres substituted by magnesium (Mg).  Thirty rats were distributed into 3 experimental groups, evaluated at 15 and 45 days postoperatively: HAG (bone defect filled with HA microspheres); HAMgG (bone defect filled with HA microspheres replaced with 1 mol% Mg), and CG (bone defect without implantation of biomaterials).  After 15 days, the biomaterials filled the entire defect extent, forming a new osteoid matrix between the microspheres.

Marine sponges play a vital role in the reef's benthic community; however, understanding how their diversity and abundance vary with depth is a major challenge, especially on marginal reefs in areas deeper than 30 m. To help bridge this gap, we used underwater videos at 24 locations between 2- and 62-meter depths on a marginal reef system in the Southwestern Atlantic to investigate the effect of depth on the sponge metacommunity. Specifically, we quantified the abundance, density, and taxonomic composition of sponge communities, and decomposed their gamma () diversity into alpha () and beta () components.

Article Synopsis
  • - In 2023, dengue virus serotype 2 (DENV2) spread widely across French overseas territories, with over 30,000 suspected cases in the French Caribbean by March 2024.
  • - Genome analysis shows that the DENV2 lineage in the Caribbean is now also found in French Guiana and has led to local cases in mainland France, but not in Réunion.
  • - To prevent the further spread of the virus and its introduction in new areas, ongoing molecular monitoring and mosquito control efforts are crucial.

Sponges of the family Petrosiidae have usually a stony and brittle texture due the high silica content of the mineral skeleton that is formed by a more-or-less regular isotropic reticulation of undefined primary and secondary tracts. Neopetrosia species are distributed worldwide and twelve species are found in the Tropical Western Atlantic Ocean, of which four are recorded from the Brazilian coast. Here, we describe new Neopetrosia carbonaria specimens from several localities along the NE Brazilian coast, analyze the Neopetrosia carbonaria holotype and review the previous record of N.

This study aimed to evaluate the tissue repair capacity of four bioceramic endodontic sealers by quantifying type I and III collagen fibers. The following sealers were tested: EndoSequence BC Sealer (Brasseler, Brasseler, Savannah, USA), Bio C Sealer (Angelus, Londrina, Brazil), Bioroot RCS (Septodont, Santa Catarina, Brazil), and Sealer Plus BC (MKLife, Porto Alegre, Brazil). Polyethylene tubes 1.

Objective: To describe the construction of a management technology aimed at implementing the Systematization of Nursing Care in nursing services.

Method: This is a methodological, qualitative and explanatory study, based on the normative and legal framework of COFEN Resolution 358/2009. It comprised the theoretical construction of instruments for practice anchored in the literature and expertise of a group of 40 nurses, between April 2020 and June 2021.

During these past years, several studies have provided serological evidence regarding the circulation of West Nile virus (WNV) in Brazil. Despite some reports, much is still unknown regarding the genomic diversity and transmission dynamics of this virus in the country. Recently, genomic monitoring activities in horses revealed the circulation of WNV in several Brazilian regions.

The objective of this study was to elaborate theoretical propositions to help understanding the Systematization of Nursing Care as a distinct phenomenon of the Nursing Process. It is a reflective, theoretical study that presented two categories: "Systematization of Nursing Care: seeking differentiating contours" and "Systematization of Nursing Care: seeking defining contours". It was identified that the systematization is not concerned with guiding the professional nursing care itself, since this issue, together with the guidelines regarding the elaboration of clinical documentation resulting from the implemented nursing care, is related to the process.

Mosquito surveillance is a crucial process for understanding the population dynamics of mosquitoes, as well as implementing interventional programs for controlling and preventing the spread of mosquito-borne diseases. Environmental surveillance agents who performing routine entomological surveys at properties in areas where mosquito-borne diseases are endemic play a critical role in vector surveillance by searching and destroying mosquito hotspots as well as collate information on locations with increased infestation. Currently, the process of recording information on paper-based forms is time-consuming and painstaking due to manual effort.

To analyze the implications of the Nursing Care Systematization in Brazilian professional practice. Theoretical and reflective study, which listed as analytical categories the regulatory framework of systematization, the implications for professional practice, the limits and possibilities. In the legal frameworks, an evolution of understanding about Systematization was identified, which resulted in an update in the resolution that deals with the theme.

Introduction: Local anesthetics are widely used in clinical practice. While toxicity is rare, these drugs can cause potentially lethal seizures.

Objective: In the present study, we investigated the electrocorticographic (ECoG) and electromyographic patterns of seizures induced by acute lidocaine (LA) toxicity and treated with anticonvulsant drugs.

The genus Clathria Schmidt, 1862 is the richest genus of the family Microcionidae, but only 20 species have been recorded from Brazil until now. Clathria (Axosuberites) Topsent, 1893 is characterized by having digitate, whip-like, arborescent and flabellate growth forms, lacking echinating spicules, well differentiated axial and extra-axial skeleton, styles and/or subtylostyles as principal spicules, and microscleres palmate isochelae and toxas. The subgenus contains 19 valid species, with worldwide distribution predominantly in shallow waters.

Testosterone is responsible for several changes in the brain, including behavioral and emotional responses, memory, and cognition. Given this, we investigated changes in the brain wave profile caused by supplementation with exogenous testosterone in both castrated and non-castrated rats. We also investigated the serum testosterone levels, renal and hepatic function, and the lipid and behavioral profiles.

Purpose: To analyze, histomorphologically, the influence of the geometry of nanostructured hydroxyapatite and alginate (HAn/Alg) composites in the initial phase of the bone repair.

Methods: Fifteen rats were distributed to three groups: MiHA - bone defect filled with HAn/Alg microspheres; GrHA - bone defect filled with HAn/Alg granules; and DV - empty bone defect; evaluated after 15 days postoperatively. The experimental surgical model was the critical bone defect, ≅8.

This study sought to identify the association between the concentration of hemoglobin and socio-environmental, maternal, biological-nutritional and health condition characteristics in preschool children; as well as the serum concentrations of zinc and retinol. It involved a cross-sectional study with 335 individuals, a representative sample of children enrolled in child day care centers in the city of Campina Grande, Paraíba. In the 294 children studied, the adjusted model showed lower concentrations of hemoglobin when the house was not made of bricks; there was no sewerage system; no public garbage collection; no treatment of drinking water; maternal difficulties for reading, writing and making calculations; age between 9 - 24 months; weight/age < - 2 score Z and health problems in the last 15 days, as well as in cases of lower serum concentrations of zinc and retinol.
