Magnetic resonance imaging diagnosis of Dandy-Walker-like syndrome in a wire-haired miniature dachshund.

A 12-week-old female Wire-haired miniature dachshund presented with non-progressive ataxia and hypermetria. Due to the animal's clinical history and symptoms, cerebellar malformations were suspected. Computed tomography (CT) and magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) detected bilateral ventriculomegaly, dorsal displacement of the cerebellar tentorium, a defect in the cerebellar tentorium and a large fluid-filled cystic structure that occupied the regions where the cerebellar vermis and occipital lobes are normally located.

Molecular characterization of Giardia duodenalis isolates from domestic ferrets.

Giardia duodenalis is a pathogen that has been found in a variety of mammals, including humans, and consists of host-specific (assemblages C, D, E, F, and G) and zoonotic (assemblages A, B) genetic groups. Ferrets are popular pets, and they, like humans, are hosts to this pathogen. The genetic characteristics of the Giardia population in ferrets are unclear because only one ferret isolate has been genotyped.

Proliferative potential of a spinal nephroblastoma in a young dog.

The proliferative potential of a spinal nephroblastoma was studied in a young dog. A 4-month-old, female golden retriever showed developing deterioration in her gait and subsequent paralysis of her hind legs. At necropsy, a well-demarcated grayish brown tumor mass was found in the lumbar spinal cord segments between L2 and L3.

A 2.5 year-old female ferret had a stiff palpable mass arising from the dorsal surface of the thoracic (T) to lumbar (L) vertebrae with paralysis of the hind limbs. By myelography the dorsal and ventral lines of contrast were not observed in the area forwarded of L3.
