Antiphospholipid syndrome: a predisposing factor for early onset HELLP syndrome.

Hemolysis elevated liver enzymes low platelets syndrome (HELLP) is a relatively rare pregnancy-related thrombotic microangiopathic disorder, usually observed during the third trimester. Its incidence seems to be increased in patients with antiphospholipid syndrome (APS). In this report, we describe a 33-year-old pregnant woman with previously known primary APS who developed early onset HELLP syndrome during the 15th week of gestation.

Mutational and methylation analysis of the cyclin-dependent kinase 4 inhibitor (p16INK4A) gene in chronic lymphocytic leukemia.

Objectives: Chronic lymphocytic leukemia (CLL) comprises a heterogeneous group of at least two types of disease entities characterized by distinctive clinical, immunophenotypical and genetic features. The molecular mechanisms underlying the pathogenesis and the histological transformation of CLL are not well known. The INK4A/p16, a cyclin dependent kinase inhibitor has been considered as a tumor suppressor gene.

Primary adrenal lymphoma presenting as Addison's disease: case report and review of the literature.

Primary adrenal lymphoma (PAL) is an extremely rare entity and adrenal insufficiency is a common complication. Bilateral enlargement of adrenal glands should raise the suspicion of lymphoma, especially in patients with clinical or laboratory features of adrenal insufficiency. Most of these cases are highly aggressive tumors and should be treated with multiagent chemotherapy.

Primary treatment of low-grade non-Hodgkin's lymphoma with the combination of fludarabine and mitoxantrone: a phase II study of the Hellenic Cooperative Oncology Group.

The treatment of patients with recurrent low-grade lymphoma with the combination of fludarabine, mitoxantrone and dexamethasone has been associated with significant activity but has also caused frequent infectious complications. We designed a phase II study for previously untreated patients with the combination of fludarabine and mitoxantrone but without steroids. Our aim was to assess the activity of this combination as primary treatment for low-grade lymphoma and to avoid the additional immunosuppression induced by dexamethasone.
