The impact of university STEM assets: A systematic review of the empirical evidence.

Background: Innovation ecosystems are an important driver of regional economic growth and development. STEM assets connected to universities may play an important role in such ecosystems.

Objective: To systematically review the literature relating to the effect of university STEM assets on regional economies and innovation ecosystems, providing a better understanding of how the impact is generated and constrained, as well as identifying any gaps in knowledge.

Using telemonitoring to support personal care planning for adults with learning disabilities.

Introduction: We report on an evaluation of the Just Right approach for planning care for adults with learning disabilities and how it can support culture change. Just Right combines installing a telemonitoring system with training for care managers in person-centred care planning and the interpretation of charts that summarise activity data for their setting. By providing insights into the needs of individuals Just Right allows existing care provision to be reviewed to ensure it is 'just right'.

Transcatheter aortic valve implantation for aortic stenosis in high surgical risk patients: A systematic review and meta-analysis.

Background: Symptomatic aortic stenosis has a poor prognosis. Many patients are considered inoperable or at high surgical risk for surgical aortic valve replacement (SAVR), reflecting their age, comorbidities and frailty. The clinical effectiveness and safety of TAVI have not been reviewed systematically for these high levels of surgical risk.

Adverse effects of extracorporeal carbon dioxide removal (ECCO2R) for acute respiratory failure: a systematic review protocol.

Background: The extracorporeal membrane carbon dioxide removal (ECCO2R) system is primarily designed for the purpose of removing CO2 from the body for patients with potentially reversible severe acute hypercapnic respiratory failure or being considered for lung transplantation. Systematic reviews have focused on the effectiveness of ECCO2R. To the author's best knowledge, this is the first systematic review to focus on the adverse effects of this procedure.

Occipital nerve stimulation for chronic migraine--a systematic review and meta-analysis.

Background: Chronic migraine is a debilitating headache disorder that has significant impact on quality of life. Stimulation of peripheral nerves is increasingly being used to treat chronic refractory pain including headache disorders. This systematic review examines the effectiveness and adverse effects of occipital nerve stimulation (ONS) for chronic migraine.

Evaluating the effectiveness of self-administration of medication (SAM) schemes in the hospital setting: a systematic review of the literature.

Background: Self-administration of medicines is believed to increase patients' understanding about their medication and to promote their independence and autonomy in the hospital setting. The effect of inpatient self-administration of medication (SAM) schemes on patients, staff and institutions is currently unclear.

Objective: To systematically review the literature relating to the effect of SAM schemes on the following outcomes: patient knowledge, patient compliance/medication errors, success in self-administration, patient satisfaction, staff satisfaction, staff workload, and costs.

Starting and staying on preventive medication for cardiovascular disease.

Purpose Of Review: To synthesize the qualitative research literature regarding medication use to prevent cardiovascular disease in order to explain the variation in healthcare professional (HCP) and patient behaviours, and to evaluate the implications for practice.

Recent Findings: The decision to start preventive medication is affected by the patient-HCP relationship and by the design of the service. Both HCPs and patients are influenced by their understanding of the evidence regarding the value of preventive interventions; their values and preferences; and their sociopolitical context and the organizational structure of their practice environment.
