A strong and transient increase in c-fos mRNA was observed in cultured astrocytes after treatment with CGRP. Quantitative Northern blot analysis revealed an increase of c-fos mRNA within 15 min, a peak after 30 min with a 10 - 15 fold increase over unstimulated cells and a subsequent decline.
