Background And Aims: Serum galectin-3 is regarded as an inflammatory marker in patients with chronic liver diseases. Hepatitis C virus (HCV) infection is associated with higher levels of inflammatory molecules which ameliorate by efficient treatment with direct-acting antivirals (DAAs). The aim of this study was to compare serum galectin-3 levels between HCV patients before treatment with DAAs and at the time of sustained virologic response at 12 weeks post-treatment (SVR12).

Background: Endogenous retroviruses (ERVs) are remnants of ancient retroviral infections that have invaded the germ line of both humans and non-human primates. Most ERVs are functionally crippled by deletions, mutations, and hypermethylation, leading to the view that they are inert genomic fossils. However, some ERVs can produce mRNA transcripts, functional viral proteins, and even non-infectious virus particles during certain developmental and pathological processes.

The infusion of methylprednisolone (MP) within 8 hours of injury for spinal cord injuries (SCI) has been advocated to improve the motor function of patients after this catastrophic injury. However, clinical improvement in the outcome of SCI has not been consistently identified, despite the use of MP. We reviewed the outcome of SCI patients with MP to those without MP (No-MP) at two Level I Trauma Centers from 1989-1992.
