Compound K (CK), an active ingredient in ginseng, has anti-cancer, anti-inflammatory, and antioxidant properties. However, its effects on thermogenesis and mitochondrial dynamics in white adipose tissue (WAT) adipocytes are not well understood. This study explores CK's impact on thermogenesis and mitochondrial metabolism in cold-exposed mice and mouse stromal vascular fraction (SVF) cells.

The Patient's Age and American Society of Anesthesiologists Status Are Reasonable Criteria for Deciding Whether to Perform Same-Day Bilateral TKA.

We investigated whether basing a decision to perform same-day bilateral TKA (SD BTKA) on the patient's age and American Society of Anesthesiologists (ASA) status was reasonable. We retrospectively reviewed the records of 1386 patients who underwent 2086 TKAs (686 unilateral TKAs [UTKAs], 1038 SD BTKAs, and 362 one-week staged BTKAs). For the entire cohort, patients undergoing SD BTKA had a higher risk of major complications compared to those undergoing UTKA.

Implant Overhang after Unicompartmental Knee Arthroplasty: Oxford Prosthesis versus Miller-Galante II Prosthesis.

Purpose: The purpose of the present study is to compare the prevalence of implant overhang between the Oxford and the Miller-Galante II (M-G II) unicompartmental knee arthroplasty (UKA) prostheses and determine whether overhang is associated with postoperative clinical results.

Materials And Methods: We retrospectively reviewed one hundred and seven UKAs which consisted of 37 Oxford UKAs and 70 M-G II. Overhang was considered present if ≥3 mm overhang was observed in any zone.

The efficacy of unilateral use of a blood reinfusion device in one-stage bilateral total knee arthroplasty.

Purpose: To assess the efficacy of unilateral use of a blood reinfusion device in one-stage bilateral total knee arthroplasty (TKA).

Materials And Methods: We carried out a retrospective cohort study on 100 patients having one-stage bilateral TKA. In 50 of these patients (study group), a blood reinfusion device was applied on one knee and a standard suction drain on the other, and they were compared with 50 matched controls who received bilateral suction drains (control group).

The effect of topical scar treatment on postoperative scar pain and pruritus after total knee arthroplasty.

Introduction: The surgical wound of total knee arthroplasty (TKA) needs continuous flexion and extension movement. Silicone gel treatment is widely used to treat hypertrophic scars and keloids since it is easily applied and prevents scar pain and itching. The aim of this study was to evaluate the clinical efficacy and safety of silicone gel applied to surgical scars of TKA on postoperative scar pain and pruritus.

Can enoxaparin reduce thromboembolism related events after primary TKA in Asian patients?

The purpose of this study was to investigate the efficacy and safety of enoxaparin in preventing venous and arterial thromboembolism related events after primary total knee arthroplasty (TKA) in Asian patients. Four hundred twenty nine patients (621 TKAs) did not receive thromboprophylaxis after TKA and 907 patients (1,336 TKAs) received enoxaparin after the procedure. We assessed clinically significant venous and arterial thromboembolism related events and bleeding complications.

Cross Pins versus Endobutton Femoral Fixation in Hamstring Anterior Cruciate Ligament Reconstruction: Minimum 4-Year Follow-Up.

Purpose: We aimed to compare cross-pin fixation and Endobutton femoral fixation for hamstring anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) reconstruction with respect to clinical and radiographic results, including tunnel widening and the progression of knee osteoarthritis (OA).

Materials And Methods: Between August 2002 and August 2005, 126 autogenous hamstring ACL reconstructions were performed using either cross pins or Endobutton for femoral fixation. Fifty-six of 75 patients in the cross-pin group and 35 of 51 patients in the Endobutton group were followed up for a minimum of 4 years.
