Oncocytic meningioma is an uncommon variant of meningioma, with only 20 reported cases to date, that is histologically characterized by the presence of neoplastic cells with granular eosinophilic cytoplasm rich in mitochondria. We present the clinicopathological features of a case of oncocytic meningioma in a 49-year-old Chinese female, along with a literature review. Brain computed tomography and magnetic resonance imaging demonstrated a slightly hyperintense mass located in the right frontal region and attached to the dura.

Imaging, pathologic histology, and immunohistochemical staining characteristics were analyzed, and the immunoglobulin heavy and light chain gene rearrangement of 25 PCNS-DLBCL cases was examined. MicroRNA was extracted from 10 cases each of PCNS-DLBCL, extracerebral germinal center DLBCL (GC-DLBCL), and extracerebral non-GC-DLBCL (NGC-DLBCL); we conducted chip hybridization and comparatively analyzed the difference among the three.

Gastric cancer cell line (SGC-7901) and cisplatin-resistant cell line (SGC-7901/DDP) were cultivated in vitro, respectively. Quantitative real-time PCR (qRT-PCR) and Western blot were utilized to determine the expression profiles of miR-34a and survivin in both gastric cancer cell lines.

Objective: To investigate the clinical characteristics and managements of pyothorax due to postoperative cervical anastomotic leakage after esophageal cancer surgery.
Methods: From January 2006 to January 2013, 3342 patients with esophageal carcinoma underwent esophagectomy and cervical esophagogastric anastomosis. Of them, 19 patients developed pyothorax following cervical anastomotic leakage and their clinicopathological data were analyzed retrospectively.
Aim: To decipher the molecular interactions between c-Met and its type I inhibitors and to facilitate the design of novel c-Met inhibitors.
Methods: Based on the prototype model inhibitor 1, four ligands with subtle differences in the fused aromatic rings were synthesized. Quantum chemistry was employed to calculate the binding free energy for each ligand.
A series of 2-amino-N-benzylpyridine-3-carboxnamides, 2-amino-N-benzylpyridine-3-sulfonamides and 2-amino-3-benzylthiopyridines against c-Met were designed by means of bioisosteric replacement and docking analysis. Optimization of the 2-amino-3-benzylthiopyridine scaffold led to the identification of compound (R)-10b displaying c-Met inhibition with an IC50 up to 7.7nM.

However, in clinical applications, nearly half of breast cancer patients are insensitive to tamoxifen, a small number of whom have early recurrence or disease progression when receiving tamoxifen. The underlying mechanism of this resistance has not been determined.

Objective: To observe the clinical features and the treatment effect of 32 cases of Ramsay Hunt syndrome and explore the relationship between different clinical manifestations and the prognosis.
Method: Using the integrated therapy including the medication and physiotherapy of ultrashort wave, the relationship between clinical manifestations and recovery time was analyzed.
Result: Twenty two cases were cured, 10 cases showed improvement of the symptoms, and no patients complained ineffectiveness.
A 48-year-old woman presented with left abdominal pain and fullness. Computed tomography scan revealed a multicystic mass with multifocal mural nodules. Histologic examination showed a mucinous cystic tumor with cystadenoma, borderline malignant cystadenoma and cystadenocarcinoma, which were associated with sarcoma-like mural nodules (SLMNs) and multifocal anaplastic carcinoma.

The human ELAV-like protein HuR has been found to contribute to cancer development and progression through stabilizing a group of cellular mRNAs of cancer-related genes. In this study, we investigated the expression of HuR in a cohort of ESCC patients using immunohistochemical staining.

Twenty-six naturally occurring oleanolic acid saponins and their derivatives, 16 of which were synthesized in this study, were preliminarily evaluated against human cancer cells. From SAR studies, the presence of α-l-rhamnosyl residue at the terminal of both C-3 and C-28 position for oleanolic acid bidesmosides was important to enhance cytotoxicity, and introducing more sugar residues at C3-OH of compound 12 with C-28 carboxylic acid is a favorable modification to ameliorate the anticancer activity. Furthermore, α-l-rhamnosyl moiety linked to C2-OH of the first monosaccharide (α-l-alabinose, β-d-xylose, β-d-galactose or β-d-glucose) in C3-OH of oleanolic acid was helpful to improve the cytotoxicity.

NRF2 acts by binding antioxidant response elements (ARE) in its target genes, but there is relatively limited knowledge about how it is negatively controlled. Here, we report that retinoic X receptor alpha (RXRα) is a hitherto unrecognized repressor of NRF2.

Objective: To explore the spectrum of typical symptoms associated with colorectal cancer (CRC) and their influence in timely diagnosis.
Methods: A total of 400 cases were randomly collected from 1798 CRC patients treated at our hospital from January 2000 to December 2010. A retrospective chart review was undertaken for all identified cases.
The aberrant function of c-Met kinase signaling pathway is ubiquitously involved in a broad spectrum of human cancers; thus, a strong rationale exists for targeting the kinase pathway in cancer therapy. Via integration of computational and experimental studies, anthraquinone derivatives were identified for the first time as potent c-Met kinase inhibitors in this research. The aberrant activation of the c-Met kinase pathway results from (TPR)-Met, MET gene mutation, or amplification and a hepatocyte growth factor (HGF)/scatter factor-dependent autocrine or paracrine mechanism.

Nonetheless, the mechanisms by which HBV contributes to the pathogenesis of HCC have not been fully elucidated.
Objectives: Our aim was to characterize differential gene expression profiles related to the Wnt signaling pathway between primary tumor and adjacent normal tissues in HCC patients with concomitant HBVinfection .

However, the mechanisms that mediate VSMC phenotypic switching are unclear. We report here that TIPE2, the tumor necrosis factor (TNF) α-induced protein 8-like 2 (TNFAIP8L2), plays an atheroprotective role by regulating phenotypic switching of VSMCs in response to oxidized low-density lipoprotein (ox-LDL) stimuli.
