Embolization of middle meningeal artery (EMMA) for chronic subdural hematoma (cSDH) is growing in popularity over the last two decade. Several randomized control trials are underway across the world. Indeed, the recent presentation of results from the EMBOLISE (embolization of the middle meningeal artery with onyx liquid embolic system in the treatment of subacute and chronic subdural hematoma), MAGIC-MT (middle meningeal artery treatment) and STEM (squid trial for the embolization of the MMA for the treatment of cSDH) trials at the International Stroke Congress marks a significant development in the field of neurointerventional radiology.

The 2022 update of the , 7 edition, is a comprehensive summary of current evidence-based recommendations, appropriate for use by an interdisciplinary team of healthcare providers and system planners caring for persons with an acute stroke or transient ischemic attack. These recommendations are a timely opportunity to reassess current processes to ensure efficient access to acute stroke diagnostics, treatments, and management strategies, proven to reduce mortality and morbidity. The topics covered include prehospital care, emergency department care, intravenous thrombolysis and endovascular thrombectomy (EVT), prevention and management of inhospital complications, vascular risk factor reduction, early rehabilitation, and end-of-life care.

Background: Variants in the ring finger protein 213 () gene are known to be associated with increased predisposition to cerebrovascular diseases development. Genomic studies have identified as a major risk factor of Moyamoya disease in East Asian descendants. However, little is known about the RNF213 (ring finger protein 213) biological functions or its associated pathogenic mechanisms underlying Moyamoya disease.

Objective: Although the past decades have seen a steady increase of women in medicine in general, women continue to represent a minority of the physician-training staff and workforce in neurosurgery in Canada and worldwide. As such, the aim of this study was to analyze the experiences of women faculty practicing neurosurgery across Canada to better understand and address the factors contributing to this disparity.

Methods: A historical, cross-sectional, and mixed-method analysis of survey responses was performed using survey results obtained from women attending neurosurgeons across Canada.

Purpose: There is little data and lack of consensus regarding antiplatelet management for intracranial stenting due to underlying intracranial atherosclerosis in the setting of endovascular treatment (EVT). In this DELPHI study, we aimed to assess whether consensus on antiplatelet management in this situation among experienced experts can be achieved, and what this consensus would be.

Methods: We used a modified DELPHI approach to address unanswered questions in antiplatelet management for intracranial stenting due to underlying atherosclerosis in the setting of EVT.

Background: Aneurysm recurrence after coiling has been associated with aneurysm growth, (re)hemorrhage, and a greater need for follow-up. The second-generation HydroCoil Embolic System (HES; MicroVention, Inc) consists of a platinum core with integrated hydrogel and was developed to reduce recurrence through enhancing packing density and healing within the aneurysm.

Objective: To compare recurrence between the second-generation HES and bare platinum coil (BPC) in the new-generation Hydrogel Endovascular Aneurysm Treatment Trial (HEAT).

Background and Purpose- Intracranial aneurysm (IA) size and location are important determinants of aneurysm rupture risk. In familial IAs there is concordance of location; however, if such concordance exists for size is unknown. We analyzed the concordance of aneurysm size at time of rupture in familial IAs.

We report a severe adverse event occurring in the course of a cohort study (ISRCTN13784335) aimed at measuring the efficacy and safety of venous stenting in the treatment of patients with medically refractory idiopathic intracranial hypertension (IIH). The patient was a 41-year-old woman who was not overweight, who presented with severe headache, grade 1 bilateral papilledema and transient tinnitus, refractory to medical treatment. Right transverse sinus stenting was successfully performed.

Background: Neuroprotection with NA-1 (Tat-NR2B9c), an inhibitor of postsynaptic density-95 protein, has been shown in a primate model of stroke. We assessed whether NA-1 could reduce ischaemic brain damage in human beings.

Methods: For this double-blind, randomised, controlled study, we enrolled patients aged 18 years or older who had a ruptured or unruptured intracranial aneurysm amenable to endovascular repair from 14 hospitals in Canada and the USA.

Background And Purpose: The purpose of this study was to estimate the performance measures of MR angiography (MRA) in the diagnosis of aneurysm residual flow after coil occlusion.

Methods: Patients having at least 1 cerebral aneurysm treated with coil occlusion were prospectively and consecutively enrolled. Time of flight and contrast-enhanced MRA were performed the same day of the DSA follow-up.

Background And Purpose: Several carotid endarterectomy randomized, controlled trials and series have reported higher perioperative stroke and death rates for women compared with men. The potential for this same relationship with carotid artery stenting was examined in the lead-in phase of the Carotid Revascularization Endarterectomy versus Stenting Trial (CREST).

Methods: CREST compares efficacy of carotid endarterectomy and carotid artery stenting in preventing stroke, myocardial infarction, and death in the periprocedural period and ipsilateral stroke over the follow-up period.
