The effect of ALPL gene polymorphism on the development of urolithiasis in the Turkish population.

Urinary system stones have a complex pathophysiology affected by environmental and genetic factors. To confirm whether ALPL gene polymorphisms are an effective universal risk factor for the development of urolithiasis, we aimed to investigate ALPL gene polymorphism in Turkish population. Our study was carried out with 187 patients with urolithiasis and 92 healthy volunteers (control group) who were not diagnosed with urolithiasis either in themselves or in their families, applied to Emergency Medicine Clinic of Health Sciences University Haydarpasa Numune Training and Research Hospital in Istanbul, Turkey between November 2021 and February 2022, prospectively.

Low serum corin levels predict end-organ damage in patients with hypertensive crisis.

Objective: The study aimed to investigate the predictive power of serum corin levels for distinguishing between hypertensive urgency (HU) and hypertensive emergency (HE) in patients with hypertensive crisis (HC) admitted to the emergency department.

Methods: A total of 120 consecutive consenting adult patients diagnosed with HC and 55 age- and sex-matched healthy controls were enrolled. Blood pressure measurements [(systolic, diastolic, and mean arterial pressure (MAP)] and the evidence of end-organ damage at the first admission were recorded.

Introduction: The novel coronavirus (COVID-19), which has affected over 100 countries in a short while, progresses more mortally in elderly patients with comorbidities. In this study, we examined the epidemiological, clinical, and laboratory characteristics of the patients aged 60 and over who had been infected with COVID-19.

Background: A coup attempt against the government took place in Turkey on July 15, 2016. This attempt caused serious injuries and deaths in the country. In this study, the data of patients referred to all hospitals in Istanbul during the attempt were evaluated, and differences between natural disasters, other terrorist actions, and coup attempts were analyzed.
