Serum Ferritin and PELOD-2 Scores in Critically Ill Septic Children - a Cross-sectional Single-center Study.

Objective: This study aims to assess the correlation of ferritin serum level and PELOD-2 score, and determine the effectiveness of ferritin serum level as early indicator of organ dysfunction.

Methods: This was a cross-sectional study carried out to pediatric patients with sepsis in the Pediatric Intensive Care Unit Haji Adam Malik and Universitas Sumatera Utara hospital from June 2021 - January 2022. Complete blood work was done, and ferritin serum level and PELOD-2 score were measured on the first and third day of hospital stay of all the sixty participants aged 1-18 years old with sepsis.

Profile of patients visiting the emergency departments at Haji Adam Malik and Universitas Sumatera Utara hospitals in Medan, Indonesia.

Objectives: Data on the patient profiles and characteristics of emergency department (ED) visits are crucial for enhancing hospital emergency care resources and developing a more effective emergency healthcare unit. The aim of this study was to report the characteristics and trends of pediatric ED visits at Haji Adam Malik (HAM) and Universitas Sumatera Utara (USU) hospitals in Medan, Indonesia, during the year 2020.

Methods: This was a retrospective descriptive study conducted in HAM Hospital and USU Hospital, using patient medical records data extracted from the hospital information systems for the period January to December 2020.

Background: The COVID-19 pandemic has caused disruption to healthcare access worldwide and has impacted basic childhood immunization services. A decline in immunization coverage can cause immunity gaps and lead to outbreaks of vaccine-preventable diseases. Effectiveness of dihydroartemisinin-piperaquine after 10 years as treatment for vivax malaria in Indonesia.

Introduction: Dihydroartemisin-piperaquine (DHP) is a type of artemisinin-based combination therapy (ACT) that is extensively used in Indonesia as first-line malaria treatment over the past 10 years. Therefore, DHP has been known to have high efficacy, but re-evaluation of the efficacy was needed since the treatment was being used for a long time.

Methodology: A cohort prospective study on pediatric and adult patients diagnosed with vivax malaria in Kualuh Leidong health centre was conducted from November 2019 - April 2020 to evaluate the efficacy of DHP for the treatment of malaria vivax.

Red Cell Distribution Width on First Day Intensive Care Unit Admission in Paediatrics.

Red distribution width (RDW) has recently been acclaimed as prognostic marker for mortality in critically-ill patients. However, this claim is still unclear and reports are still inadequate for the association between RDW and mortality in critically-ill paediatric patients. This research assessed the correlation between RDW within 24 hours of PICU (paediatric intensive care unit) admission and PELOD-2 score.

Bacterial culture is the gold standard of bacterial infection, but it takes considerable time to get the result.
